POIPU — Logan Laymon of the Kapaa High School boy’s golf team broke par on Saturday during the Kauai Interscholastic Federation golf round played at Kukuiula.
Laymon, firing a four-under-par 68 to challenge the rain, sun, rain, sun weather conditions in Poipu, was joined by fellow Warrior Graham Morgan, who finished with a one-under 71 and settled for the second top individualist honors. Third-place finisher Lucas Summerhays of Island School finished at even par 72 after carding a four-under on the Back Nine.
“A number of kids came ready to play some golf,” said Paul Ito, the KIF scorekeeper. “Logan Laymon from Kapaa High School set the bar high with an impressive round of 68, shooting four-under in the trying conditions. Graham Morgan of Kapaa continues his strong play this season by taking second place in individualist play, shooting a solid one-under-par 71. Lucas Summerhays of Island School brought it home strong, firing a four-under 32 on the back nine to finish at even par 72 for his round.”
It said those individual performances helped the Kapaa boys put up the season’s lowest team score this week, with a team total of 310.
“Island School put up their best team total of the year with 331 to capture second place over Kauai High School boys who finished in third with a team total of 346,” Ito said.
On the girls’ course, Kapaa High School girls continue to dominate, finishing with a team total of 285, 22 shots better than Kauai High School girls, who finished at 307. Waimea High School girls finished in third with 392.
“Kauai High School’s Amalia Abigania was the low individual with a score of 87, beating Kapaa High School’s Juliette O’Shaughnessy’s 88 by one stroke,” Ito said. “Sydney Ito from Kauai High School took third with a 92.”
“A big mahalo to the membership and staff at The Club at Kukuiula for having the kids out for their match on Saturday,” Ito said. “It was a day of rain, then sun, then rain, then sundown on the South Shore, but the course was in awesome condition.”
The next KIF golf round will be played on Saturday at the Puakea Golf Course. The first groups tee off starting at noon.
