LIHUE – In honor of Earth Day 2025, the Department of Water (DOW) announces a rain barrel grand prize drawing in April.
A rain barrel is a container that captures and stores rainwater from the roof. The collected rainwater is a valuable source for gardening. A total of three, 50-gallon rain barrels will be given away, to encourage water conservation outdoors and help customers reduce their water bill.
Kauai households, businesses, schools and organizations can apply. Applicants must be 19 years or older.
Applicants must arrange pickup and delivery of the rain barrels.
To participate in the giveaway, applicants may visit the DOW office in Līhue and fill out an entry ticket. The contest drawing will be held on April 30.
While there, consider donating to DOW’s month-long Earth Day Food Drive for the Hawaii Food Bank and the Kauai Independent Food Bank. The donation of non-perishable food items helps to reduce food waste in Kauai County. Checks will also be accepted and should be made out to Kauai Independent Food Bank or Hawaii Food Bank.
