LIHUE — Officer Myles Mendoza with the Kauai Police Department (KPD) was recognized during an award ceremony on March 28 for the drug contraband he discovered while performing a routine stop.
KPD Officer Mendoza was recognized as the KPD Police Commission’s Employee of the Month for March 2025 during their monthly meeting last Friday.
The KPD commission reported that on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2024, Officer Mendoza performed a routine traffic stop after observing a driver not wearing a seatbelt while driving in Poipu.
Once the motorist was pulled over, Mendoza discovered the driver had an outstanding warrant. After placing the driver under arrest, a pat-down revealed a vial containing a white powdery substance that tested positive for cocaine.
Based on his investigation, Officer Mendoza was able to seize the car as evidence. After obtaining a search warrant, $2000 in cash was discovered, along with an additional 100 grams of cocaine found with a street value of $3,000. Crystal methamphetamine was also found in the vehicle, along with prescription pills and various illegal drug paraphernalia.
Chief Todd Raybuck illuminated Mendoza’s executive decisions and eye for detail and explained how his officers’ actions were instrumental in preventing these dangerous substances from spilling into the community he stated;
“Officer Mendoza’s exceptional work highlights the dedication and vigilance we value in our officers,” said Chief Raybuck.
“His proactive response was crucial in stopping these drugs from circulating, ultimately safeguarding our families and Keiki from their devastating effects. We are proud of his outstanding work and the high standard he sets for law enforcement.”
The Police Commission recognized Officer Myles Mendoza with a lei and a certificate to celebrate his exceptional attention to detail, reinforcing KPD’s mission to protect and serve the community with unwavering commitment.
