Maria Udaundo Caoili
Maria Udaundo Caoili, of Lihue, passed away on March 9, 2025, at the age of 87. She was born in Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte, Philippines on Aug. 29, 1937, and was a housekeeper at Kauai Coconut Beach Resort, waitress at Hamura Saimin and seamstress.
She was preceded in death by her husband Eusebio Caoili, parents Calixto and Priscilla Udaundo, brother Esteban Udaundo and brother-in-law Lino Beñas.
She is survived by her son Alex (Connie) Caoili, daughter Emelda Dias, brothers Alejandro (Carmelita) Udaundo, Roberto (Lolita) Udaundo, sisters Cristina Beñas, Rosalina (Pablo Virgilio) Valdez, sister-in-law Florentina Udaundo, grandchildren Melinda (Chris) Ishida, Tara-Lynn (Brandon) Kaui-Egami, Keahi Dias, Mariah (Miles) Inada, Taira Caoili, great-grandchildren Kenji, Kanoa and Kiana Ishida, Tiare and Micah Kaui, Xaelyn and Adrian Remigio, Hayden and Mahina Inada, Lexie Caoili, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at St. Michael and All Angels Church. Viewing will begin at 9 a.m. with services to follow at 10:30 a.m. Burial will take place at Lihue Cemetery after services have been completed.

Walter Don Ines
Walter Don Ines, of Kekaha, passed away on March 11, 2025, at the age of 86. He was born on Dec. 23, 1938, in Waimea, Kauai. He was a retired TSGT with Hawaii Air National Guard 150th AC&W Squadron-Kokee.
He was preceded in death by father Walter Mariano Ines, mother Lydia Medeiros Ines, son Walter D. Ines Jr. and wife Mercedes Ines.
He is survived by sons Damon (Susan) Ines of Kekaha, Darrell (Kerri Fay) Ines of Kekaha/Makawao, daughter Michelle Brun of Waimea, sister Lillian Ines of Ewa Beach, grandchildren Damon K. Ines, Davon Ines, Dariann Ines, Brendan Ines-Brun, Hannah Brun, Faith Brun, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service will be held on Friday, April 4, 2025, at the Garden Island Mortuary in Lawai. Visitation from 9:30 to 11 a.m., service at 11 a.m. and burial to follow at Kauai Veterans Cemetery at 1 p.m. The family requests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Plebecita “Nanang” Jaquias, of Hanamaulu, passed away on Nov. 5, 2024, in Santa Rosa, California, at the age of 88. She was born in Tayum, Abra, Philippines, on April 26, 1936. She relocated to Hawaii in 1974, where she worked for Lihue Plantation and Sheraton Hotel.
She was predeceased by parents Eusebia Balauro and Ricardo Gandeza, husband Ruben Jaquias, Hipolito Aquias, daughter Gloria Tanner, grandson Michael Harper, daughters-in-law Editha Aquias, Marylyn Gerardo, brothers Johnny and Wally Gandeza.
She is survived by her daughters Emma Aquias Iloreta, Evelyn (Catalino) Aranda, sons Leonardo Aquias, Frederick Aquias, Jerry (Mary) Aquias, Renante (Charie) Aquias, 20 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, son-in-law Jimmy Iloreta, Ester Gandeza, brothers James, Joseph (Shelly), Jacob (Noreen) Gandeza, sisters Jessie (Norvin) Olivas, Florence Gandeza Tavares, Edna (Julio) Bolante, numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at Immaculate Conception Church on Saturday, April 26, 2025. Visitation from 9 to 10 a.m., Mass from 10 to 11 a.m., and burial will take place at Kauai Memorial Gardens after the Mass.
Anastacio ‘Tony’ Gacutan Escalona
Anastacio ‘Tony’ Gacutan Escalona, 84, of Kapa’a, passed away on Oahu on March 13, 2025. He was born in Ilocos Sur, Philippines on Dec. 8, 1940, and retired as a butcher with Big Save Market in Kapa’a.
Preceded in death by his son Anthony Escalona, wife and mother of his children Virginia Escalona, siblings Theodorico, Carmen, Saturnina, Paulina, Venancia and Esperanza.
He is survived by his daughter Barbara (Roderick) Green and their children Andrea Green, Nialani Green, Austin Green, daughter-in-law Erma Escalona and her children Anthony Kalama Escalona, Ailana Sidney Escalona, wife Evangeline Escalona, brother Marcos Escalona, stepchildren Ruby Calapatia, Reinario (Frances) Calapatia and his children Kiani Jayden, Keylan, great-grandchildren Xybren, Jaybri, Ryker, Mila, Reggie (Chanel) Calapatia and his children Trevor (Shaylyn), Katelin, Chanceson and his children Maia, Mace Calapatia, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at St. Catherine Church with viewing from 9:30 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.

Harley Morris
Harley Morris, of Kapaa, passed away on Feb. 26, 2025, at the age of 53. He was born in Lihue on Feb. 26, 1972.
He loved the ocean for its bounty produced from spearfishing and its beauty as he paddled his kayak upon her.
He was preceded in passing by his father Frederick “Larry” Morris and grandma Amelia Santella.
He is survived by his mother Mary Bryan, brother John (Jenna) Morris, sisters Naomi (Will Hunt) Bryan, Grace (Braxton) Crosby, numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Puka’s Ministries at 12 noon.
