Walter Don Ines
Walter Don Ines, of Kekaha, passed away on March 11, 2025, at the age of 86. He was born on Dec. 23, 1938, in Waimea, Kauai. He was a retired TSGT with Hawaii Air National Guard 150th AC&W Squadron-Kokee.
He was preceded in death by father Walter Mariano Ines, mother Lydia Medeiros Ines, son Walter D. Ines Jr. and wife Mercedes Ines.
He is survived by sons Damon (Susan) Ines of Kekaha, Darrell (Kerri Fay) Ines of Kekaha/Makawao, daughter Michelle Brun of Waimea, sister Lillian Ines of Ewa Beach, grandchildren Damon K. Ines, Davon Ines, Dariann Ines, Brendan Ines-Brun, Hannah Brun, Faith Brun, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service will be held on Friday, April 4, 2025, at the Garden Island Mortuary in Lawai. Visitation from 9:30 to 11 a.m., service at 11 a.m. and burial to follow at Kauai Veterans Cemetery at 1 p.m. The family requests casual attire and welcomes flowers.
Garden Island Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.
Ronald T. Valdez
Ronald T. Valdez, of Eleele, passed away on Feb. 21, 2025, at the age of 76. He was born on Dec. 9, 1948, in Lihue. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents Tranquilino and Felicidad Valdez, brother Charles Valdez and brother-in-law Eli Pablo.
He is survived by his wife Novena Valdez, son Ronson Valdez of Hanamaulu, stepson Ramah Wong of Kapaa, daughters Tisha (Mareques) Henderson of Florida, Dawn (Matt) Lopez of Kapaa, Chelsey Valdez of Eleele, brother Standford Valdez of Kalaheo, sisters Juliette (Julie) Valdez of Oahu, Erlinda (Dennis) Schleie of Las Vegas, Sylvia Pablo of Kaumakani, 15 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service will be held on Sunday, March 30, 2025, at the Garden Island Mortuary in Lawai. Visitation from noon to 1:30 p.m., followed by service at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be at the Kauai Veterans Cemetery on Monday, March 31, 2025, at 9 a.m.

Patricia Ann Hunter-Williams
Patricia Ann Hunter-Williams, of Anahola, passed away on Nov. 5, 2024, at the age of 67. She was born in Gardena, California on March 26, 1957, and worked as a Language Arts teacher serving multiple Public Schools of Kauai.
She was preceded in passing by her parents William and Franque Hunter.
Patricia is survived by her husband Theodore “Teddy Boy” Williams Jr., children Tayton (Jackie) Williams of Anahola, Chantry (Kapena Cummings) Williams of Anahola, grandchildren Taelyn (Raiatea) Hale-Ajimine, Tayven “Kili” Williams, Taylee “Mehana” Williams, Ezra Cummings, Ezekiel Cummings and great-grandchild Tehya.
Services will be held at Anahola Village Park on Saturday, March 29, 2025. Visitation begins at 9:30 a.m., followed by services at 10:30 a.m.
Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Wayne M. Sakai
Attorney Wayne Masayuki Sakai died in Honolulu, Hawaii on Jan. 22, 2025.
Wayne was born in Waimea, Kauai on May 29, 1940.
He was predeceased by his parents Tadashi Sakai and Hannah Sakai, his brother Dennis Sakai, and his son Wayne Robert Sakai.
He is survived by his sister Aileen Sakai Nitta.
Wayne graduated from the University of Hawaii and Drake Law School. He returned to Honolulu, working as a deputy prosecuting attorney and then moved to private practice with Henshaw, Conroy and Hamilton. He moved to Burke Sakai McPheeters Bordner Iwanaga and Estes and finally to Sakai Iwanaga Sutton, Law Group, where he practiced until his death.
Growing up in Waimea, Wayne spent his youth in Waimea Canyon and the trails in Koke’e where he met his moniker, the wild jungle fowl called “the bantam rooster”, which became his nickname.
As a tenacious lawyer, he was known for his lengthy depositions and was credited for change in rules of procedure to a limit of seven hours.
As a bantam rooster, he dressed impeccably and drove the latest prestigious cars, including the first Mustang Fastback, several Jaguars and a few BMWs.
His trial lawyer skills were recognized as a member of the prestigious American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA).
Services for Wayne are at Nuuanu Memorial Park & Mortuary on Saturday, April 5, 2025, visitation at 1 p.m. and services at 2 p.m.
Elizabeth ‘Betty’ May Eberle Unanian
Elizabeth “Betty” May Eberle Unanian, a beloved wife, teacher, and champion for animals, passed away peacefully on Feb. 14, 2025, at the age of 97, surrounded by love and friendship.
Betty was born on June 20, 1927, in South Central Los Angeles to Harold Frederick Eberle of New York and Sarah Martha Woodbury of California.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents Harold and Martha Eberle, her brother Harold Eberle Jr., and in 2003, her beloved husband and best friend Ed.
She is survived by her niece Teresa Bradbury of California and her nephew Mark Eberle of Florida.
Betty’s ohana would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the incredible staff at the Regency of Puakea, where she was not just cared for, but truly loved. She always said this was where she wanted to spend the rest of her life. Thank-you for doing more than you thought was possible. A special thanks also to the compassionate staff of Hospice, who ensured her final days were filled with dignity and comfort.
Betty’s Celebration of Life will be on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at 10 a.m. at the Kauai Humane Society. No koden please. Betty loved everything animals and would love for you to donate in her memory.
