Household Hazardous Waste collection begins
LIHUE — The Public Works Solid Waste Division has announced it will once again begin collecting Household Hazardous Waste HHW as part of its continued effort to reduce pollution by diverting waste from landfills.
The weekend event is scheduled for Saturday, March 29, and Sunday, March 30 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Saturday HHW event will be hosted at the Hanapepe Base Yard and Kapaa Base Yard. The Sunday event will be hosted at the Anaina Hou Community Park and the Kauai Resource Center in front of the Lihue Refuse Transfer Station.
The items that will be accepted at the event include; automotive products, lead-acid batteries, oil-based paints, thinners and strains, fluorescent lights, and lawn, and garden products batteries among other items.
Items that will not be accepted at the event include; propane tanks, medical waste, e-waste, latex paint, tires, used motor oil, fireworks, ammunition, and flares.
It is important to note that this event is for island residents only. Organizations, farmers, businesses, and government agencies will be turned away.
