LIHUE — Kauai and Kapaa High School tennis teams won their respective matches during the Kauai Interscholastic Federation matches that were contested at the schools’ tennis courts on Saturday.
Kauai High School teams did not give up a single set to Island School as the Red Raider wahine took a 5-0 win over Island School, and the boys shut down the Voyagers, 5-0.
In addition to the regular competition matches, the expanded courts allowed the Red Raiders to host eight “Exhibition Matches” that allowed players more play time on the courts.
Kapaa High School’s courts were buzzing as tennis was joined by the softball doubleheader and the track and field competition on the athletic field.
Warrior track official Calvin Paleka noted that it was fortunate the baseball team was playing at Vidinha Stadium because the extra space on the baseball field could be used for the track and field competitors and spectators seating.
Kapaa took the girls’ series, 5-0 over Waimea High School, and the Warrior boys were 4-1 winners over Waimea when First Singles’ Swede Sandblom came back to win over Kapaa’s Brody Kapali in a tie-breaker match.
The next KIF tennis matches will take place on March 29 when Kauai hosts Kapaa at the Red Raiders’ courts starting at 9 a.m. Island School will host Waimea at the Poipu Kai tennis courts starting at noon.
