KAPAA — Following a week of getting oriented with the rules and and game format, Kauai High School and Island School are the first two Kauai Interscholastic Federation girls flag football teams to post wins following the Thursday night outing at the Bryan J. Baptiste Sports Park stadium.
The Red Raider ladies posted a 12-0 victory over Waimea High School after Kauai High lit up the scoreboard on a punt return for touchdown in the first quarter.
Kauai girls followed that ice-breaker with a long run to the opposite side for its 12-0 win.
Island School became the second school to mark a win after holding off Kapaa for a 20-6 win that took place despite a pair of light outages and the developing lunar eclipse.
Former Lady Voyager soccer standout Chloe Ayonon sparked the win by posting at least two touchdowns.
Kapaa, facing a 20-0 deficit, started the cross field march that persisted through one of the two light outages to tap paydirt.
The next KIF girls flag football games will kick off on Thursday at the Bryan J. Baptiste Sports Park stadium.
The first of three games will feature Kapaa taking on Waimea in a 4 p.m. kickoff, followed by Kauai High School tangling with Island School in a 5:15 p.m. matchup. The night closes wi9th Island School meeting Waimea in a 6:30 p.m. showdown.
