Tuesday is National Agriculture Day (how many of you knew that?), and unless you head to the North Shore, there are no farmers market on the day after Saint Patrick’s Day (green beer?) … Bill Spitz was early to the Grove Farm Market on Saturday where Brandee Javiar’s cousin was solo-ing because there was soccer going on … no, Kauai High School catcher Drake plays a double-header against Kapaa at Vidinha Stadium.

Agriculture Day (the State Legislature had one a few weeks ago) is a time to recognize and celebrate the importance of agriculture in our daily lives … do you know how the avian flu affects the price of eggs? More close to home, have you talked with all the farmers and what they do to get all those fresh produce, fruits and tropical flowers to you?
And, don’t forget the ranchers, egg farmers and hog farmers (Ferdinand Dosono of Kauai Kim Chee misses Mamo Kaneshiro and the pork belly he used to get from Kaneshiro Farms … now, it’s Costco).
Don’t forget the University of Hawaii Master Gardeners (who’s been catching more than their share of Coconut Rhinoceros Beetles?) who always have the best seeds for what’s in season.
The Girl Scout Cookies are getting in low supply (the cutoff date is March 31) since most of the troops are selling out. Thank heaven for the South Shore troop who had most of the line available for the Wicked Movie Night (Spring Break started Friday after school!). The best way to find cookies is to use the Girl Scout Cookie Finder on the Girls Scouts of Hawaii website.
