Kudos to Hawaii Lodging &Tourism Association, Kauai Executive Director Samira Siale on a great Second Pickle Ball Tournament that played at the Kauai Community College newly-redone pickleball and tennis courts where the well-known local pickleball celebrities were spending the weekend … mahalo to Mason Chock’s brother for having those fancy grinds (are we having more on Saturday behind Hale Lihue during the Downtown Lihue Night Market?) … is it Lexi Jones’ birthday?

Samira said she wants people to sign up for the Charity Walk in May (it’s right around the corner, folks), and the Walk Wednesday auction starts today!
Kudos to those Immaculate Conception malasada makers who paid tribute to Aunty Alice Arruda (where were Darryl and Nadine Horner?), who started the tradition in the 1970s. Baseball coach Hank Ibia was first in line when retired police chief George Freitas went home to check on the dogs. Elizabeth said the group made 250 pounds of dough using the same rising cloths and mixing containers as Aunty Alice. They even had the Portugal flag flying when First Hawaiian Bank (the new FHB by Safeway at Hokulei is opening in April) stopped by for malasadas for the office.
George was worried because the yeast wasn’t rising when he arrived, and there was a line outside Kauai Bakery at the Kukui Grove Center.
But as the sun peeked from behind the Kapaia hills, the dough started rising, and the table outside Kauai Bakery was for preorders (only the regular kine) and cash-only pickup.
Now, where are those Girl Scout cookies?
