LIHUE — The Department of Parks and Recreation DPR has announced that phase one of the Vidinha Stadium Improvements Project will begin on March 7.
The nine-month, 12.2 million rehabilitation work is scheduled to begin on Friday and will remain closed until the duration of the construction work. The contractor, Co-Ha Builders Inc. dba Applied Surfacing Technology, in collaboration with the Fukunaga & Associates Inc. engineering company, has estimated the project’s completion by December 2025.
The stadium’s first phase will consist of removing and demolition of the track and its existing field, a scoreboard, and track equipment used in track and field events, as well as the installation of synthetic turf, a synthetic track, and a video board.
“This project would not have been possible without the collaboration of the County Council, State legislators, the Hawaii Department of Education, Kauai Interscholastic Federation, our dedicated County staff and contractors, and the many partners who contributed to its success,” shared Kauai Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami.
“I extend my heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved in making this vision a reality. These upgrades will ensure that our community will have access to a world-class facility that promotes recreation, fitness, and healthy living.”
