WAIMEA—Equipment in the newly renovated Imaging Department at the Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital has already been used, and the Monday blessing of the Department took place in between patients.
Officiated by Rev. Wayne Vidinha of Ke Akua Mana Church, the blessing, attended by the KVMH Imaging Department and members of the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation Kauai Region leadership team, announced the completion of the newly renovated Imaging Department at KVMH.
“We are thrilled to offer these advanced imaging services to our community, which will not only improve access to care but also elevate the level of care provided to our patients,” said HHSC Kauai Region CEO Lance Segawa. “With our newly renovated facility, we can offer our patients the best medical technology while maintaining a caring and professional environment.”
The renovated Imaging Department is equipped with the latest medical technology, allowing the staff to provide key services to the hospital’s patients, including Digital Radiography/Fluoroscopy, an advanced form of X-ray that produces images instantly on a computer.
The CT Scan is a series of X-ray images processed to create detailed cross-sectioned pictures of bones, blood vessels, and soft tissues; the 2D/3D Ultrasound is an imaging method using sound waves to create pictures inside the body, commonly used during pregnancy and for imaging the heart, blood vessels, and abdominal organs; 2D/3D Tomosynthesis Mammography is a new technology that creates 2D and 3D-like pictures of the breasts, improving early detection of breast cancer and reducing false positives. Interventional Radiology is a minimally invasive approach to diagnosing and treating conditions using catheters, wires, and other small tools guided by imaging techniques like CT and Ultrasound.
These upgrades ensure patients receive the highest quality care in a professional, timely, and caring environment.
In addition to these cutting-edge services, all imaging specialists at KVMH are certified in multiple modalities, including Radiography, Computed Tomography (CT), Mammography, and Ultrasound, through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, or ARRT, and the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers, or ARDMS).
The KVMH mammography Department is accredited by the American College of Radiology and certified by the FDA under the Mammography Quality Standards Act, or MQSA.
The Imaging Department is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., and is closed on Sunday.
