POIPU — On Thursday, The Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa awarded $25,000 to the Kauai United Way as the resort’s annual giving to KUW.
Diann Hartman, the resort’s director of Marketing and Communications, said the Grand Hyatt Kauai associates derived funds for the Kauai United Way contribution through donations, payroll deductions, banana bread sales, garden lettuce sales, and many other activities.
The community giving by the Grand Hyatt Kauai does not end with the KUW presentation, as the Poipu resort is a major sponsor of the Bum Run on Saturday, which benefits the American Cancer Society Relay for Life event that is coming up in August. And
More specifically, the Bum Run is a fundraising crusade to raise awareness of colon cancer that afflicted Grand Hyatt Kauai associates.
The giving continued when the resort learned that the Kauai United Way deadline for the current campaign ends Friday.
But the campaign goal is coming up a little short. Kauai United Way is extending the deadline until Sunday with a Last Push drawing for prizes, including hotel stays, restaurant certificates, and activities.
The Grand Hyatt Kauai dug into its pockets and contributed a one-night stay to the cache of prizes available.
Anyone is eligible to donate for a chance to win prizes. Donations of $25 for a ticket or $100 for five tickets can be made online at the Kauai United Way website, www.kauaiunitedway.org.
In addition to the one-night stay at the Grand Hyatt Kauai, other prizes include a one-night stay at the Kauai Shores Hotel, a $300 certificate from Enterprise Rent-A-Car, a Kipu Ranch Off Road adventure for two, a certificate for $100 from Living Foods, a $100 certificate from RumFire located in the Sheraton Kauai Resort in Poipu, a $100 certificate from Safeway, and a $100 certificate from Duke’s Restaurant.
The deadline for final bidding is at 9:55 a.m., March 3.
