When you thought the excitement from the Waimea Town Celebration was over, the Second Annual Charity Walk Pickleball Tournament kicks off on Friday and runs through Sunday at the Kauai Community College with prizes like hotel stays and restaurant certificates. Additionally, for those wanting to check out pickleball action and the new courts at the community college, there will be bento boxes and on-site snacks. All of this is to help support the state’s hospitality industry and help to meet this year’s Charity Walk goal of $700,000 to help more than 50 of the island’s nonprofit organizations.

The pickleball tournament is just one of several events that help with the goal, along with the golf tournament, the Poke Festival, which is now two days (June 13 and 14 at the Koloa Landing Resort), and, of course, the big Charity Walk in May.
Closer to home, Diann Hartman of the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa said the Bum Run, benefiting the American Cancer Society Relay for Life (which is coming up in August) and the fight against colon cancer, is on Saturday morning at the Poipu Bay Golf Course starting at 7 a.m.
That’s enough time to make it to the Second Annual Kauai Healthy Living Spring Celebration at 9 a.m. at the Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital campus, presented by the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation, Kauai Region. The free community celebration for the whole family includes Healthy Living vendors, health tips from doctors, family fun, lucky number drawings, free giveaways, and entertainment by the Cruz Control. In addition to the HHSC Kauai Region (missed not having the booth at the Waimea Town Celebration), the Spring Celebration is sponsored by Alaska Airlines, the Waipa Foundation, and the Kekaha Agriculture Association (remember the free head cabbages from Aloun Farms from last year?).
