In the middle of Kauai’s “business hub” sits a nourishing market that remains committed to healthy, on-the-go meals for the people of Kauai.
HealthGo Market, located at the intersection of Rice Street and Haleko Road, has become Lihue’s go-to for garden-fresh, convenient meals for office workers for the past six years.
Today, Jeremy Hillstrom, owner of HealthGo Market, will be celebrating the market’s sixth anniversary and invites residents to join in and celebrate their special day, meet the staff, and support the small local business that’s committed to offering healthy and delicious on-the-go food options.
“I would come into Lihue for work and need to find a meal but was constantly frustrated with the challenge of finding healthy food options in town,” said Hillstrom. “Eventually I decided that I was the best person to open something in Lihue to get the amazing produce we were growing on our farm to the people who live, work and drive through Lihue.”
Hillstrom is also the owner of True Leaf Farms and brings the organic produce from his farm into the market. He explains that by using produce grown on their farm in Moloaa, they help the island become more sustainable and less reliant on food coming from the Mainland and other countries.
“We will be offering our house-made kombucha at half-off for any grilled meal purchased in February,” said Hillstrom.
“This anniversary is special because we are finally offering everything we wanted to offer, including affordable organic groceries, food from our grill, smoothies and coffee drinks, a hot and salad bar, in-house kombucha on tap, and a large selection of grab-and-go items, but it took a long 6 years to get here,” he said.
Though his business journey has been a constant yo-yo, HealthGo Market remains resilient and fully dedicated to the community’s health.
“Our food is kept simple and we use the best ingredients we can, including organic as much as possible,” explained Hillstrom. “We also use olive, coconut and avocado oil instead of cheaper unhealthy seed oils for our ingredients. A grassroots company started by people from Kauai for the people of Kauai.”
HealthGo Market is open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
