KAPAA — The next Kauai Interscholastic Federation wrestling matches for boys and girls will take place on Saturday starting at 10 a.m. at the Clem Gomes Gym in Waimea. The match format will be a duals meet.
According to notes from Kapaa wrestling coach Joshua Ramirez, who has been tracking the website where the KIF wrestling results are posted, the KIF boys finished with Waimea posting 29-16, Kauai 19-30, and Kapaa 12-9 for the match that was held on Saturday at the Bernice Hundley Gym.
The boys having the Most Matches are Matthew Vazques-Salas, Otis Anderson, Trevor Alop, Brody Melendez, Ehzno Richardson, Chase Bolyard, Jai Domingues, Jardin Chong Tim and Aiden Gadingan.
Brody Melendez and Chase Bolyard posted the Most Wins at five. Melendez posted five pins, and Bolyard had the Fastest Pin at 21 seconds.
On the girls mats, Waimea girls finished 15-18, Kauai 5-12, and Kapaa 10-0.
Female student athletes having the Most Matches include Avah McRoberts, Amaya Macabeo, Bella Kellerman, Marie Carinio, Raely Agor, Raia Agor, Kaiwahie Sakamoto-Flores, Kurlina Jones and Pamela Corpuz.
McRoberts posted the Most Wins at four.
Nahe Marshall, Avah McRoberts, Leana-lyn Balajadia, Kaiwahie Sakamoto-Flores and Pamela Corpuz posted the Most Pins at three apiece, and Sakamoto-Flores had the Fastest Pin at 21 seconds.
Wrestlers worked in a scramble format.
The Central Pacific Bank KIF championship wrestling match is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. on Feb. 8 at the new Kauai High School gymnasium. The state tournament is scheduled to run on Feb. 21 and 22 at the Blaisdell Arena on Oahu.
