LIHUE — The Rookies took a 17-4 win over the Hanamaulu Hillsiders and improved to 4-0 in the Kauai Senior Softball league standings following the games played on Saturday.
“What a fantastic day of Senior Softball on Saturday,” said JC Crouch of the Kauai Senior Softball league. “We took over Lihue for eight great games, and more importantly, enjoyed the after-party at the Peter Rayno Sr. Field Pavilion and the Isenberg Stadium Tent City for hours of food, fun and camaraderie. This is why we play the games.”
Crouch said Isenberg Stadium was in top-notch shape and runs were scored in bunches throughout the day on Saturday.
“The Makos took on Kuku’s Aces to start things off and showed their power and good defense to take the big win. ImiOla followed suit by putting up a big number versus West Kauai in the second game. The Lihue A’s and East Kauai Legends provided the most entertaining game by going back-and-forth throughout before the A’s held on for the win.”
Crouch said the Peter Rayno Sr. Field needed some attention as a number of seniors needed to drag the field, paint the bases and adjust the Commitment Line before play started.
“The day’s first game was a fun one between two top teams as E Ola Pono pulled away after trading runs all day with a big win over a strong Bushwackas club,” Crouch said. “Next came the game of the day as the Gents and Kawaiha squared off and took turns trading the lead before the Gents had to go extra innings to take the big win.”
The Rookies, showing their power and tremendous defense, ran past the Hanamaulu Hillsiders, and the final game was a doubleheader for both the Gents and Hillsiders for close competitive play. The Gents finished with its second win of the day.
Following play on Saturday, two teams — the Rookies and E Ola Pono — are undefeated after three and four weeks of play. Four teams — Barteks, Bushwackas, EK. Legends and Makos — are two wins, one loss on the leaderboard.
There is a work day scheduled for today at the Puhi Park from 8 a.m. to noon.
Games will be played at the Bryan J. Baptists Sports Park in Kapaa and the Wally Sonoda Field in Kaumakani.
