Juanita A. Caspillo
January 27, 1940 — December 25, 2024
Juanita A. Caspillo passed away peacefully on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones. Born on Jan. 27, 1940, Juanita lived a life of profound faith, relentless prayer, and boundless love for her family, friends, and community.
Her devotion to her Catholic faith was the cornerstone of her life. In 1980, Juanita founded the prayer group at United Airlines, where she worked, creating a spiritual community that provided support, guidance, and connection for her colleagues. Her leadership and dedication to prayer continued to inspire others for decades. Known for her relentless praying of the rosary, she created an umbrella of protection and blessings over her family, a testament to her unwavering belief in the power of prayer.
Passing on Christmas Day, her favorite day of the year, is a comfort and a sign that her prayers were answered. Her family finds peace knowing that her love, faith, and dedication to God will continue to sustain them.
Juanita now rejoins her beloved husband, Albert Michael Caspillo, along with her brothers and sister, in eternal peace. Their reunion in heaven is a joyous fulfillment of her lifelong faith and devotion.
She is survived by her four children, Albert Caspillo, Julie Caspillo, Cheryl Caspillo-Svenson, and David Caspillo. Juanita was the proud grandmother of eight grandchildren and a cherished great-grandmother. She adored each of them and found immense joy in their love and laughter, as well as in their spouses and children, all of whom carry forward her legacy of faith and love.
Juanita found joy in life’s simplest and most meaningful moments. Whether walking in nature, offering quiet prayers, or spending time with loved ones, she embodied grace, patience, and a deep connection to God. Her life was a testament to selfless service, spiritual devotion, and unwavering kindness.
Services to Honor Juanita’s Life:
• Viewing & Rosary: Jan. 13, 2025, 4 to 8 p.m. at the Chapel of the Chimes, Hayward, California.
• Mass: Jan. 14, 2025, 1 to 2 p.m. (location to be confirmed), followed by a luncheon until 5:30 p.m.
• Burial: Jan. 15, 2025, 1 p.m. at Chapel of the Chimes, Hayward, California.
Juanita’s life of faith and her enduring legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. May her spirit continue to guide, protect, and inspire her family and friends as they honor her remarkable life of love and devotion.
Hedy L. Sullivan
Hedy “Hoa Aloha, Wife, Sister, Cousin, Mom, Mama, Aunty, Grandma, Tutu” Leilani Sullivan, 76, of Kekaha, Hawaii, died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2024, at Wilcox Medical Center. She was born on May 15, 1948, in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Frederick and Rosaline Jarrett.
She is survived by her husband Papa Steven, sons Darin Alhanati (Anysia), Randy Rustick, siblings Jeraldine Tanemura (Wayne), Frederick Jarrett, 11 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, many other hanai children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
“O ke ola no i ka wai” – Life is in the water. Hedy has found peace, cradled by the ocean’s embrace and the eternal spirit of Aloha. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy of love will forever light our hearts, a guiding star in the waters of our memories.
Plans for a celebration of life will be made and communicated at a later date.
Michael Ray Marshall
Michael Ray Marshall, 70, of Kapaa, passed away Nov. 29, 2024, peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on Sept. 20, 1954, in Lihue.
He graduated from Kapaa High School in 1972 and shortly after he joined the US Navy, where he served for 3 years. He then returned to Kauai in 1975.
Mike was employed at the Lihue Planation before leaving with his family for California in 1981. There in California, he was employed by Southern California Edison Company for 20 years till retirement. In 2001 he and his family returned to Kauai. In 2003 he joined the Kauai Police department where he became a Police Officer until his retirement in 2018. In late 2021 he worked for Allied Universal at the Lihue Airport as an LEO till January 2024.
Mike preceded in death by his father Russell Marshall, mother Katherine Summers, brothers Russell Jr., Vernon Marshall, sister Corinna Elleson and his furry baby Mahea.
Mike is survived by his wife Melanie of 45 years, daughters Mandy-lee (Carlos) Martin, Marisa K. Marshall (Seiji) Yotsuda, grandchildren River Michael (Booboo), Kya Malia (Missy), Mia Ysabella (Mimi) (Jordan), great-grandchildren Ka‘ikena and Zion (Bula). Not to mention Mike furry babies Mahina, Kira, and Kora. Siblings Rally (Danny) Kamai, Traven Kelekoma, Kirstie (Martin) Banda and Harlynn (Richard) Rodriquez all of Anaheim, California. Also survived by many uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Our family would like to express an incredibly special thanks to Kauai Hospice, Nurse Sequioa Dahlberg, Shawn, Miriam, Elise, Ken, Dr. Monty Downs, Dr. Netzer, his nurse Kim and Kauai Memorial Gardens. Also, a special thanks to Mckenzie Metcalf.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2025, at 9 a.m. at St. Catherine Church in Kapaa.

James Radcliffe Bailey
James Radcliffe Bailey (Jim) passed away at home on Nov. 18, 2024. Born on May 19, 1948, in Honolulu, Jim lived his life dreaming big, working diligently and establishing a place to call home on the land he cherished.
Jim was appreciated for his dependability, attention to detail and an unwavering work ethic. His work as a builder was a testament to his belief in creating something enduring, beautiful and meaningful.
With vision and determination, Jim helped transform family land in Kilauea into a personal paradise. The property is a sanctuary filled with fruit trees, laughter and memories; a place that reflects his deep love of the land and family. Whether he was out on the greens enjoying a round of golf, tending to the land or spending time with nearby family, Jim always found joy in the simple, meaningful moments of life.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents Amelia and Robert Bailey, brother Cliff Bailey and brother-in-law Gary Blaich.
He leaves behind a family who adored him: daughter Brooke (Johnny Wiskerchen), sister Beryl Blaich, sister-in-law Fahy Bailey, brothers Speedy (Pauline) and John (Karla) Bailey and many beloved nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will take place at the family property in Kilauea on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family welcomes donations to Hawai’i Land Trust (HILT.org).

Harry Akio Kakutani
Harry Akio Kakutani passed away on Nov. 25, 2024. Born on Aug. 15, 1944, Harry was raised in Lawai on Kauai. He was in the U.S. Army for three years, a journeyman in the Hawaii Carpenters’ Union for 10 years, and a carpentry instructor at Kauai Community College and for the Carpenters’ Union for 26 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley Lea Kakutani, brother Yasuo, and sister Marsha.
He is survived by his sister Sachi (George) Mori, two sons Neil (Lauren) and Andy (Terri), three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 9 a.m. at the Kauai Community College Theater on Monday, Jan. 20, 2025.
