KOKEE — A 51-year-old visitor from Illinois was rescued after suffering a leg injury on the Awawapuhi Trail on Monday.
KOKEE — A 51-year-old visitor from Illinois was rescued after suffering a leg injury on the Awawapuhi Trail on Monday.
Firefighters with the Waimea Fire Station responded to the emergency call shortly after 11:50 a.m. for an injured female hiker on the Awawapuhi Trail in Kokee.
Rescue 3 onboard Air 1 helicopter deployed to the call; however, due to the heavy cloud coverage, the rescue helicopter wasn’t able to access the Kokee area. Therefore, Rescue 3 personnel and Waimea firefighters hiked the trail and discovered the injured visitor at approximately 1:40 p.m.
The female visitor was then carried down the trail by first responders and arrived at the trailing parking lot by 4:15 p.m., to awaiting medical personnel with American Medical Response. AMR personnel continued medical treatment of the hiker.
AMR transported the woman to Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waimea and cleared the scene at 4:30 p.m.
