Francis K. Nishizawa
Francis K. Nishizawa, of Lihue, passed away on Dec. 20, 2024, in Lihue at the age of 73. He was born on Nov. 19, 1951, in Lihue. He was a janitor.
He was preceded in death by his parents Nisaburo Nishizawa, Miyoe Shimomura and brother James Nishizawa.
He is survived by his wife Martina S. Nishizawa, sisters Minnie Nishizawa of Kapaa, Cynthia Nishizawa (Mark Gama) of Japan, nephews Anthony Gama, Derek Gama, both of Colorado.
A service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2025, at the Hongwanji Buddhist Temple located at 4-1170 Kuhio Hwy in Kapaa. Visitation from 9 to 10 a.m., followed by service from 10 to 11 a.m.
The family would like to thank Dr. Raymond Martinez and his staff, Dr. Ash Kanan, Kauai Hospice, Estela Viloria and family (caregivers).

Zaldy Bathan
Zaldy Bathan, of Hanapepe, passed away on Dec. 16, 2024, in Hanapepe at the age of 66. He was born on Sept. 21, 1958. He was a baker and cook.
He was preceded in death by his parents Graciano and Judith Bathan, brothers Reynaldo Bathan, Danilo Bathan and Edwin Bathan.
He is survived by his wife Gilda Bathan, sons Frederick Bathan of Paranaque, Philippines, Gemzaldy Bathan of Rome, Italy, Richmond Alan Bathan of Paranaque, Philippines, Randy Bathan of Binalonan, Pangasinan, Philippines, daughter Celestine Manzano of Hanapepe, eight grandchildren, brothers Wilfredo Bathan of Antipolo, Rizal, Philippines, Efren Bathan of Batangas, Philippines, Arnold Bathan of Rome, Italy, Gilbert Bathan of Rome, Italy, sisters Ofelia Bathan of Batangas, Philippines, Sonia Bathan-Luna of Canada, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025, at the Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo. Visitation from 8:30 to 10 a.m., followed by Mass at 10 a.m. The family request casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Gertrude Lizama DeBusca
Gertrude Lizama DeBusca, of Kapaa, passed away on Dec. 29, 2024, in Kapaa at the age of 78. She was born on Oct. 18, 1946, in Lihue. She was an elementary school teacher.
She was preceded in death by her father Joseph “Red” Lizama and mother Evangeline Lizama.
She is survived by her husband Frederick DeBusca Jr., daughters Monica (Derek) Kawakami of Lihue, Kateri (Kevin) Tennberg of Kapaa, grandchildren Christopher Kawakami, Hailee Kawakami, Lucy Tennberg, Lily Tennberg, sister Monica Enoka of Kapaa, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025, at St. Catherine of Alexandria Church in Kapaa. Visitation is from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m., followed by Mass at 10:30 a.m. The family requests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Bernard Kauhihiwa Lancaster Jr. ‘Pote’
Bernard Kauhihiwa Lancaster Jr. “Pote”, 43, of Hilo and formerly of Kauai died Aug. 5 at the Hilo Benioff Medical Center. Born in Hilo on Dec. 1, 1980, he was a landscaper.
He was preceded in death by brother Michael Akuna and grandson Shiloh Alvarez-Lancaster.
He is survived by mother Ermine Akuna of Kauai, father Bernard Lancaster Sr. of Kauai, life partner Amber Mees of Hawaii, children Josiah Alvarez of Kauai, Nikela Alvarez of Kauai, Kayleb Lancaster of Kauai, Micah Alvarez of Kauai, Kawelo Lancaster of Hilo, Ka’ua Peleka of Maui, Jhi’ani Pekela of Maui, Kayden Peleka of Maui, siblings Coty (James) Hensley of Ele’ele, Bernadene Lancaster of Honolulu, Kyle (Latasha) Lancaster of Kauai, Levi Lancaster of Ohio, Leilani Akuna of Kauai, Ola McMahan of Kauai, Kaena Akuna of Maui, Shania Akuna of Kauai and numerous grandchildren.
A private celebration of his life will take place at a later date.
