KALAPAKI — A 34-year-old woman was successfully rescued from the waters off Kalapaki Bay on Sunday.
The Coast Guard Sector Honolulu watchstanders received an emergency notification from the Kauai County Dispatch personnel regarding a distressed woman in the water at Kalapaki Bay at 11:48 a.m. Sunday.
Watchstanders coordinated a rescue launch with their 45-foot Response Boat-Medium boatcrew from the Coast Guard Station Kauai to assist, along with personnel from the Kauai Fire Department.
When USCS arrived on the scene, rescuers discovered the woman about 500 yards in the water along with two firefighters on paddleboards assisting her.
The boatcrew recovered the woman along with both firefighters from the water, and took them back to the Coast Guard Station. The woman was then transferred to local emergency medical services and was reported in stable condition.
The National Weather Service issued a High Surf Warning for all north- and west-facing shores on Kauai and Niihau on Saturday, which was extended through 6 a.m. on Wednesday.
