Ron Wood took advantage of the Blue Hawaii and Trivia Night at the Kauai Veterans Center on Friday to get dinner and support the veterans (Sgt. “On Golden Pond” plays next on Thursday (7 p.m. curtain), Friday (7 p.m. curtain), Saturday (7 p.m. curtain), and Sunday (4 p.m. matinee). “On Golden Pond” runs through Jan. 19, and tickets can be bought online at the Kauai Community Players website at www.kauaicommunityplayers.org.
Victor and Jodi Ascuena had a genuine Elvis (complete with the embroidered trademark) shirt in a sea of muumuu and alohawear, and did Kauai Museum Director Chucky Boy Chock really cook the batch of chili and rice? Becky Komaki was busy doing her Mixed Sweet Potato French Fries (uses Okinawan and regular sweet potatoes).
Over at the First Saturday (it was actually the first Saturday of 2025, too!) event in Kapaa, Neill Sams of Orchid Alley said there’re just five weeks remaining before Valentine’s Day as he replaced the Christmas marketing signage with a V-Day one.
Rudy Sina of the Master Gardeners (presented by the University of Hawaii College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources at the Grove Farm Market) said it was not too early because the Master Gardeners will be hosting Westside professionals for a session on grafting and air layering when the Grove Farm Market hosts its craft fair component during the first Saturday in February.
In the meantime, this weekend is the Downtown Lihue Night Market where the Muumuu Month people have a day-long event, Repair Your Muu, and a walking tour that coincides with the start of the Saturday evening event on Kress Street.
