LIHUE — Two West Side parks are scheduled to close for four months for rehabilitation.
The Department of Parks and Recreation announced it will be closing portions of Hanapepe Town Park and Lucy Wright Park in Waimea from January to April for construction.
Hanapepe Town Park was closed on Wednesday, to begin dismantling portions of the playground, along with the installation of a new bathroom, water installation, and electrical and sewer utilities.
Construction for the new playground is estimated to begin in the summer.
Lucy Wright Park in Waimea will close on Jan. 8 to allow demolition work to begin on the existing restrooms replace them and repair the pavilion.
Construction work on both parks is estimated to be completed in April. The Department of Parks and Recreation thanks the public for their patience and understanding.
