Kudos to Shannon Hiramoto of Machinemachine for persevering for 11 years in wearing muumuu to all different events to promote muumuu and its significance in Hawaii culture and as part of the fashion industry … Jaime Jacinto just wrapped up an event for the holidays, and said she’s working on another event taking place in about six months (er, Mother’s Day?).
Bart Thomas was gearing up for the Blue Hawaii and History Trivia Night, and Shannon said the Boroboro Boutique is almost always present during the E Kanikapila Kakou events presented by the Garden Island Arts Council at the Outrigger Kauai Beach Resort … the first one starts Feb. 3 with Makana.
Now that the fireworks and smoke from New Year’s has quieted, the Kauai Interscholastic Federation launches its winter season of sporting events in full swing. Boys basketball started on Thursday, and swimming starts on Saturday to join the girls basketball program that never got a winter break.
Renee Palmer of the Kauai Society of Artists said Friday was the last day of the Small Works Big Show at the KSA gallery at Kukui Grove. Next up is the Board of Directors (including Mavis Aiu, Susan Carlisle, Stephen Lucas, Carol Meckling, Julijana Pinnock and Mona Rinaldo) Exhibition that runs from Jan. 17 to 25, daily from noon to 6 p.m., and from noon to 7 p.m. on Fridays.
Julijana Pinnock (she was a winner at the Small Works Big Show exhibit) will be hosting a Sip &Paint Party on Jan. 18 from 5 to 7 p.m. For information, visit paintwithjulia.com.
