Roberta Carol Agena
Roberta Carol Agena, of Waimea, passed away on Nov. 2, 2024, at Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital at the age of 79. She was born on Jan. 26, 1945, in Waimea. She was an elementary school teacher.
She was preceded in death by her parents Fred and Dorothy Dela Cruz, brothers Donald Dela Cruz, Gerald Dela Cruz and sister Ellen Dela Cruz.
She is survived by her husband Lowell Agena, sons Eric (Cathy Shibuya) Agena, daughters Stacie Aguinaldo, May Lee (Harvey) Llantero, grandchildren Brandie Aguinaldo, Jade Aguinaldo, Andrew Llantero, brothers Stanley Dela Cruz of Eleele, Ernest (April) Dela Cruz of Kekaha, sisters-in-law Aurelia Dela Cruz, Vicki Dela Cruz, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2025, at the Garden Island Mortuary in Lawai. Visitation from 9 to 11 a.m. followed by a celebration of life at 11 a.m. The family requests casual attire.

Tomiko Almeida
Tomiko Almeida, aka Bobbie Almeida, of Koloa, passed away on Sept. 23, 2024, at the age of 93. She was born on Dec. 29, 1930, in Hakalau, Hawaii. She retired as the office manager of Pacific Service & Development in Lihue.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bernard Almeida Sr., father Yotaro Kimura, mother Mitsuri Hayashida Kimura, brothers Kenso, Torao, sisters Akie, Harue, Toshie, Yukie and Thelma.
She is survived by her sons Bernard Almeida Jr. of Kauai, Matthew “Mano” (Georgette) Almeida of Oahu, Bertram (Cristy) Almeida of Kauai, daughters Cheryl Almeida of Kauai, Maria (Richard) Almeida of Kauai, brother Kenji Kimura of Arizona, sister Diane Machida of Oahu, grandchildren Tyson (Ala) Corr, Uilani (Josh) Yorkman, Amber (Sean) Hatfield, Joni (Aaron) McCandless, Desiree Caminos, Tobias Almeida, Justin (Effie) Davis, Waileia (Terrin) Brokaw and 15 great-grandchildren.
Our family would like to thank the amazing staff at Wilcox Hospital and Emergency Room for all the love, empathy, and patience shown to mom and our entire ‘Ohana and Mahalo to Bruce and his staff at Garden Island Mortuary for all the kokua and Aloha.
Also, we would like to say Mahalo nui to all the friends that had shown so much love to mom by spending time with her, visiting her, taking her out to lunch, dinner and special events and just always being so kind and special to her. Mom loved all of you so much and enjoyed every minute spent with each and every one of you. You know who you are and we will be forever grateful for all that you did while Mom was with us.

Andres (Sonny) Yanos
Andres (Sonny) Yanos, 82, of Kekaha, passed away on Aug. 5, 2024. Sonny was born on March 5, 1942, in Waimea, Kauai, to the late Emilio and Cipriana Yanos.
After graduating from Waimea High School, Sonny joined the U.S. Army where he toured in Vietnam, Panama, and Germany. While stationed in Germany, he met his former wife Monika Yanos.
Sonny served in the U.S. Army for 23+ years as a mechanic and retired as a Master Sergeant. Upon retirement from the Army, He and Monika returned to the states and raised their two boys Dino and Emil.
After retiring from the military, Sonny and family settled down in Washington State and he attended Clover Park and Bates Technical College to study fire and alarm systems. His second career had him traveling all over Washington State installing alarm systems for private and commercial businesses.
When he decided to retire completely, Sonny moved home to Kauai to care for his aging father, Emilio, who passed four days before his 100th birthday.
Sonny cherished spending time with his family in Washington and Kauai and with his longtime partner Janet Haffner. He especially enjoyed watching his grandsons play sports.
He took pride in maintaining the mango trees that his father also took pride in. He shared mangos with family, friends and neighbors. He made mango bread, pickled mango, and mango seed.
Sonny was predeceased by his parents Emilio and Cipriana Yanos, son Dino, sisters Florentina, Cecilia, Valeriana, and Agustina, and brothers Adreano and Manuel.
He is survived by his youngest son Emil, his wife Cristy, grandsons Micah and Cole, brother Marcelino, numerous nieces and nephews.
A private service with the family will be held at the Kauai Veterans Cemetery on Jan. 4, 2025, starting at 1 p.m.

Ernest Simon Silva Jr.
Ernest Simon Silva Jr., of Kekaha, passed away at home on Dec. 16, 2024, at the age of 73. He was born on Aug. 8, 1951, at Wilcox Hospital.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ernest Silva Sr., Mildred Silva, brother Lloyd Silva, daughter Ernette Silva and sister Geraldine Silva.
He is survived by his wife Brenda Silva, sons Ernest Silva III, Ezra John Silva, Eldred Benton (Ciara) Silva, four grandchildren and sister Rosalie (Moki) Nitta.
A service will be held at a later date.

Richard (Ricky) Kaeo Jr.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Richard (Ricky) Kaeo Jr., who passed away at Wilcox Medical Center on Nov. 29, 2024, at the age of 74.
Ricky was born in Lihue, Kauai, on Jan. 1, 1950. Ricky was a retired grounds maintenance worker at Kauai Lagoons Golf Course where he spent many years dedicated to his work. He was known for his kindness, hard work and love for the outdoors.
He was preceded in death by his parents Richard T. Kaeo Sr., Helen Kamehiro Anderson, half siblings Lorraine Hoeae and Harry Okahashi.
Ricky is survived by his sisters Linda (Joey) Silva, Cynthia McKnight, Debra Robertson, half siblings Arnold (Nito) Anderson, Brian Anderson, Terry Ihu, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
A private prayer service will be held at Immaculate Conception Church on Jan. 4, 2025, at 10 a.m., with a Celebration of Life to follow at Niumalu Outrigger Canoe Club at Kalapaki.
Ricky will be deeply missed by his family and friends. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

Hedy L. Sullivan
Hedy “Wife, Sister, Mom, Mama, Aunty, Grandma, Tutu” Leilani Sullivan, 76, of Kekaha, Hawaii, died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2024, at Wilcox Medical Center. She was born on May 15, 1948, in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Frederick and Rosaline Jarrett.
She is survived by her husband Papa Steven, sons Darin Alhanati (Anysia), Randy Rustick, siblings Jeraldine Tanemura (Wayne), Frederick Jarrett, 11 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, many other hanai children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
“O ke ola no i ka wai” – Life is in the water. Hedy has found peace, cradled by the ocean’s embrace and the eternal spirit of Aloha. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy of love will forever light our hearts, a guiding star in the waters of our memories.
Plans for a celebration of life will be made and communicated at a later date.
Wanda Sanae Shimizu
Wanda Sanae Shimizu passed away on May 2, 2024, at Garden Island Healthcare-Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 63. She was born on May 5, 1960, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital. She was a retired Traffic Operation Supervisor at the State of Hawaii, Fifth Judiciary Court.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Hatsue and Haruo Shimada, paternal grandparents Juichi and Kiyoko Doi, father and mother-in-law Noburo and Eiko Shimizu.
Wanda is survived by her loving husband Ford Shimizu of Kapaa, son Kyle (Apryl) Shimizu of Kapaa, daughter Joyce (Ryan) Kunselman of Honolulu, grandchildren Kysen and Ayla Shimizu, Riley Kunselman, fur baby Pua, favorite niece Shana Kuriki of Kapaa, parents Stanley and Catherine Doi of Kapaa, brother Wesley Doi of Kapaa, brothers-in-law Blaine (Alpha) Shimizu of Honolulu, Dean (Lynn) Shimizu of Honolulu, sisters Janice Doi of Kapaa, Cheryl (Curtis) Kuriki of Kapaa, Susan Doi of Lihue, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins
Celebration of life will be on Jan. 11, 2025, at Kapaa Jodo Mission Church in Kapaa. Viewing begins at 9 a.m. and service to follow. The family requests casual attire.
