If you wear your alohawear (muumuu or fancy aloha shirt), there is no admission donation at the Kauai Historical Society event, “Blue Hawaii Movie and Hawaii History Trivia Night,” that takes place on Friday, starting at 5 p.m. at the Kauai Veterans Center and Museum located adjacent to the courthouse and Vidinha Stadium.
For those who opt to donate, or if you don’t have alohawear, the admission is $10 that benefits the Friends of the Kauai Veterans Center.
There will be refreshments, and a chili and rice dinner available for purchase at the family event where organizers are suggesting to bring your own beach chair.
This event launches a month-long January is Muumuu Month schedule of events, many of which are free and family-friendly. Stay tuned for more events coming up.
Congratulations to Shana Tafiti who took ownership of the indoor batting cage located a few doors up the street from Mark’s Place.
“This has been a dream come true,” Shana said of the 1433 Roots facility. “I can now give back to my community, and have somewhere for Kauai to go to and have fun.”
Roots 1433 is described as a “dynamic community-centered facility designed for sports, recreation and wellness with three top-tier batting cages equipped for both baseball and softball, complete with a simulator for interactive hitting games.”
Shana said when the permits get approved for the snack shop, she hopes to bring in some of her grandfather Joe Grace (remember the roast pork plates and cheeseburgers from the Hawaii Winter League years?) meals to share with the community.
