Richard (Ricky) Kaeo Jr.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Richard (Ricky) Kaeo Jr., who passed away at Wilcox Medical Center on Nov. 29, 2024, at the age of 74.
Ricky was born in Lihue, Kauai, on Jan. 1, 1950. Ricky was a retired grounds maintenance worker at Kauai Lagoons Golf Course where he spent many years dedicated to his work. He was known for his kindness, hard work and love for the outdoors.
He was preceded in death by his parents Richard T. Kaeo Sr., Helen Kamehiro Anderson, half siblings Lorraine Hoeae and Harry Okahashi.
Ricky is survived by his sisters Linda (Joey) Silva, Cynthia McKnight, Debra Robertson, half siblings Arnold (Nito) Anderson, Brian Anderson, Terry Ihu, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
A private prayer service will be held at Immaculate Conception Church on Jan. 4, 2025, at 10 a.m., with a Celebration of Life to follow at Niumalu Outrigger Canoe Club at Kalapaki.
Ricky will be deeply missed by his family and friends. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

Juanito Balisacan
Juanito Balisacan, of Hanapepe, passed away on Dec. 18, 2024, in Lihue at the age of 69. He was born on April 20, 1955, in Sarrat, Ilocos Norte, Philippines.
He was preceded in death by his father Zacarias Balisacan, mother Maria Balisacan, brother Ricarte Balisacan and sister Celerina Acoba.
He is survived by his wife Rizalyn Balisacan of Kauai, daughter Mary Cris Sierra (Jose III) of Honolulu, two grandchildren, brother Pepito Balisacan (Emilia) of Honolulu, sisters Glorification Ballesteros of Kauai, Estrella Dela Cruz of Kauai, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service will be held on Friday, Jan. 24, 2025, at the Garden Island Mortuary in Lawai. Visitation from 4 to 6 p.m., followed by a celebration of life at 6:30 p.m. The family requests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Ernest Simon Silva Jr.
Ernest Simon Silva Jr., of Kekaha, passed away at home on Dec. 16, 2024, at the age of 73. He was born on Aug. 8, 1951, at Wilcox Hospital.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ernest Silva Sr., Mildred Silva, brother Lloyd Silva, sisters Ernette Silva and Geraldine Silva.
He is survived by his wife Brenda Silva, sons Ernest Silva III, Ezra John Silva, Eldred Benton (Ciara) Silva, four grandchildren and sister Rosalie (Moki) Nitta.
A service will be held at a later date.

Remedios ‘Remy’ Balmidiano
Remedios “Remy” Balmidiano, of Omao, passed away on Nov. 18, 2024, at Hale Kupuna Nursing Home at the age of 96. She was born on Sept. 8, 1928, in Waimea. Prior to retirement, she worked seasonally at Lawai and Kapaa cannery, Kauai Surf, and Kauai Laundry.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bernardino Jackson Balmidiano, parents Tranquilino and Estaquia Panera Palado, sisters Bening Villoria, Adella Briones, Coching Villoria, brother Erning Palada, granddaughter Rochelle K. Barretto, and daughter-in-law Jenelle Wong Balmidiano.
She is survived by her sons Rudy Balmidiano of Hanapepe, Morven Balmidiano of Washington, daughter Norma (Robert) Barretto of Kapaa, four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and sister Catalina “Talin” Florentino of Honolulu.
A service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025, at the Garden Island Mortuary in Lawai. Visitation is from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by a celebration of life at 11 a.m. The family requests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Mabel M. Silva
Mabel M. Silva, 92, passed away on Dec. 19, 2024, at home. She was born in Hawaii on Oct. 20, 1932, and worked as a supervisor at Wilcox Memorial Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her husband George E. Silva and brother Louis Mendes.
She is survived by her sons Clayton (Alison) Silva, Brandon J. Silva, daughters Beverly (Wayne) Nakamoto, Sharon C. Silva, Kathy Silva, sister Josephine Bandmann, 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2025, at Immaculate Conception Church. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. and services at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery.

Emiko Mori Watanabe
Emiko Mori Watanabe, age 93, of Hilo, Hawaii, passed away on Nov. 1, 2024, at her residence in Hilo. She was born in Port Allen, Kauai, Hawaii, on Sept. 12, 1931, and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin.
Predeceased by husband Akira Watanabe.
She is survived by children Cora (Richard) Nitta of Pearl City, Hawaii, Brian (Janice) Watanabe of Hilo and Ann (Andrew) Kikuta of Hilo, sister May (Spencer) Chun of Los Angeles, California, brother Stanley Mori of St. Joseph, Missouri, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Private services held. No flowers. No Koden (monetary offerings).
