Sumiko’s is looking for someone who’s committed to take over the popcorn business. He was already out of waffle dogs (actually, he said they had batter, but ran out of hot dogs) on the final day of the 2024 Mele Makeke.
Edwin Vea (the Beach House Craft Fair is Jan. 19 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.) was bummed at the Grove Farm Market because the Hanalei Taro people were Missing In Action on a day he wanted to get kulolo.
Elliot Lucas had his tuxedo in tow for the screening of “Too Much Life” at the Kauai Community College Performing Arts Center where a lot of the film’s stars braved the chilly north winds to attend the screening … Angela Tillson (she worked on films when Art Umezu was the film commissioner) said she saw a whale off Kealia Beach over the weekend.
Okay, New Year’s Day is getting closer … time to check in with Erika Kleinfeld (good excuse to visit Orly Patisserie, too) and see how firecracker sales are doing … county officials remind people that fireworks can be lit off from 9 p.m. on Dec. 31 to 1 a.m. on Jan. 1, and permits from the Kauai Fire Department are needed to get firecrackers.
And the Pau Hana Market opens at 3 p.m. today at Kukui Grove with a limited supply of New Year decorations and items. Are we having taiko?
