LIHUE — The Kauai Island Utility Cooperative announced on Friday that Member Services and Communications Manager Beth Amaro was honored by Pacific Business News as one of 31 Hawaii women for the 2025 Women Who Mean Business awards.
The award by PBN recognizes women who have demonstrated excellence in both business and community leadership.
At KIUC, Amaro oversees internal and external communications and services to more than 33,000 residential and commercial members. This includes community engagement and service projects, grants, and legislative priorities. KIUC led the state of Hawaii in renewable energy generation at 57.9 percent renewable in 2023, and posted the lowest electricity rates in the state from May 2022 through July 2024.
KIUC is a not-for-profit electric cooperative owned by its members and governed by an elected Board of Directors.
“Beth is deeply involved in our community and deserving of this recognition,” said President and CEO David Bissell. “Her work ethic and business acumen have benefited many organizations and people on Kauai. We are very proud to have her representing us at KIUC.”
Amaro’s longstanding record of service for the residents of Kauai includes positions at the County of Kauai as public information officer, director of Communications, director of Economic Development, chair of the Board of Water Supply, member of the Civil Service Commission and member of the Kamehameha Schools Association of Kauai.
Currently, Amaro serves on boards and committees for the Kauai United Way, Hawaii Foodbank Kauai and the Kauai Chamber of Commerce.
