LIHUE — A woman is in critical condition after being struck on the highway on Monday.
The Kauai Police Department (KPD) reported that at 12:20 p.m., a 25-year-old woman was attempting to cross Kuhio Highway when she was hit by a 2016 Hyundai sedan traveling northbound.
First responders along with KPD’s Traffic Safety Section immediately closed Kuhio Highway near Wailua Golf Course in both directions for about two hours while the victim was assisted by emergency personnel and transported to the Wilcox Medical Center in Lihue.
The driver of the sedan did not report any injuries. However, the victim is reported to have serious injuries and remains in critical condition.
The woman’s identity was undisclosed, and there was no available record of a permanent address.
The incident is under investigation, with toxicology results pending. It appears that speed was not a contributing factor.
