LIHUE — Garden Island residents and visitors are being advised to be mindful of the added waste that will be generated this holiday season.
The County of Kauai Solid Waste Division is reminding everyone that trash is and will increase by 25 percent between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Items such as Christmas trees, wrapping paper, boxes, Styrofoam, plastic bags, food packaging and decorations, among other items, add up.
Customers are encouraged to recycle accepted materials at the Kauai recycling sites throughout the island. Do not leave recyclables on the ground as they can become unrecyclable, wet or windblown.
Residents who purchased a live Christmas tree are also reminded to remove all decorations and stands before taking the tree to the Refuse Transfer Station’s green waste drop-off. Trees can also be dropped and loaded onto the truck parked at the Kauai Nursery and Landscaping on Kaumualii Highway in Puhi.
