Winter Break doesn’t start until Friday, but the keiki were out in force starting with The Shops at Kukuiula Keiki Bash on Friday where they were running at breakneck speed between the different scavenger hunt stations. Kauai Independent Food Bank Executive Director Kelvin Moniz said he had to come and check because the event was crazy busy with people donating for food to get their photos with Santa (the snow kept getting into his hair and beard) … was it a little better at the Kauai Coffee Open House on Saturday?

Kudos to Darla Domingo for not forgetting how much fun the Open House can be (it happens in the thick of harvesting season for Kauai Coffee!). Roastmaster Wailana Kaohelaulii (did you know she’s related to the Pacific Missile Range Facility’s Public Affairs Officer Jonel Kaohelaulii?) was busy roasting up the special medium roast blend and packing the roasted beans to benefit Kauai Hospice with the help of her intern Midori Frost.
Daniel Momohara didn’t know the name of the green food truck (he said he only knows they come from the Otsuka’s parking lot) that took care of the volunteers’ meal tickets (and $6 basic lemonade) before heading to the Downtown Lihue Night Market (it was the second Saturday of December) where Kickshaw’s announced their 11th anniversary. Kickshaw’s will be doing a special (good burgers!) gig on Sunday at Dr. Murray’s lot in Koloa.
Kudos to Saint Theresa School that spent the day gift wrapping at Kukui Grove before the entire school population of angels, elves and formally dressed Santa’s helpers arrived to perform a Christmas song presentation from the second Western-most (PMRF and Mana is the first) point in the country … did it end in time for the Westsiders to enjoy the Holiday Light Show?
