NAPALI — The search for 32-year-old Lauren M. Cameron from Alaska continues after she was last seen in the water off Hanakapiai Beach on Wednesday.
First responders with the Kauai Police Department (KPD), Kauai Fire Department (KFD), Ocean Safety Bureau (OSB), and the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG), along with state officials and the on-duty KFD battalion chief, are actively responding to the incident.
The victim was identified on Friday as Lauren M. Cameron of Anchorage.
According to officials, KFD personnel responded to a report of a missing swimmer who allegedly entered the water and was swept into the ocean by strong currents at Hanakapiai Beach on Wednesday shortly after 3:10 p.m.
She was last seen wearing a blue bikini and hanging onto the rocks 100 yards west of Hanakapiai Beach. A bystander reportedly attempted to rescue the woman by throwing her a rescue tube.
Officials with KFD, OSB and other agencies have conducted search operations since Wednesday afternoon while USCG personnel continued the search throughout the evenings.
The multi-agency search for the missing female visitor continued on Friday morning along the coastline and in waters off Hanakapiai Beach.
