LIHUE — Kapaa High School soccer, playing three matches on Saturday during the Kauai Interscholastic Federation matches that were played at Vidinha Stadium and the Island School field, picked up two victories, and the Kauai High School girls picked up a 10-0 win over Kapaa.
Waimea High School teams, playing at the Island School field, finished with a pair of ties after the Menehune boys battled to a 2-2 stalemate with the Voyagers. The Menehune wahine worked 80 minutes to a 0-0 tie.
Saturday’s matches marked the inaugural appearance of the boys’ teams.
On the Junior Varsity field, Kapaa’s Sean Flores netted two goals for the JV Warriors. Kaleohano Gonsalves, Liam Langschmidt and Kalico Sugihara each put away a Kapaa goal in the 5-0 shutout.
The Varsity boys match saw Kapaa come back with three second-half nets to erase a 1-2 Kauai advantage at the break. The Warriors saw Bear Miller net a pair of second-half goals to lead the comeback, including his first shot, a penalty kick that opened play in the half. Nalu Geer netted the first half point, and Eddie Silliman closed the scorebooks.
Kauai High School picked up its 2-1 halftime advantage behind goals from Jacob Andres and Kaikea Potts.
Red Raider Coral Turner led the Kauai 10-0 shootout with four goals, including two in the first half when her first shot creased the nets in the first two minutes of play. Aileah Villatora netted two goals, one in each half.
Other scorers included Kylah Racca, Kyla Pereira, and Carlee Dusenberry netted first-half goal. Laysa Turner closed the scorebooks in the final minute of play.
Over at the Island School, Ikaika Havas’ goals in the 17th minute and the 28th minutes gave the Voyagers a 2-1 edge at the break. But the Menehunes answered in the 58th minute with a Shayden Ranis Alameda Dela Cruz net for the 2-2 stalemate. Ranis Alameda Dela Cruz also scored Waimea’s first half goal in the 18th minute to answer Havas’ goal.
On the girls’ field, both the Menehune and Voyagers battled to a 0-0 tie.
The next KIF soccer games take place on Tuesday when the Kauai High School boys host Waimea at Vidinha Stadium, and Kapaa hosts Island School at the Bryan J. Baptiste Sports Park stadium. Both games are scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
On Wednesday, the KIF girls take the field when Kauai hosts Waimea at Vidinha Stadium, and Kapaa hosts Island School at the BJB stadium. Both games start at 4 p.m.
