LIHUE — As Deacon Dave Kane said on Monday, there are as many reasons for people to be at the candlelighting memorial as there are people that filled the great hall at Immaculate Conception Church in Kapaia.
Sponsored by Matson, several hundred people took advantage of the Kauai Hospice annual candlelighting memorial to remember their loved ones who died as the ki hoalu stylings of Paul Togioka opened up the channels of remembrance and memories that were triggered by the Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School Choir.
Caroline Miura of Kauai Hospice said that love never dies.
Kauai Hospice will present the candlelighting memorial on Thursday at the Hanapepe Hawaiian Congregational Church, located at 3815 Hanapepe Road. Everyone is welcome to light a candle in memory of their loved ones, starting at 6 p.m. The event is free.
The invitation extends to the Kauai Hospice candlelighting memorial that takes place on Dec. 10 at the Saint Sylvester Catholic Church, located at 2390 Kolo Road in Kilauea. That memorial is also free and starts at 6 p.m.
