Mahalo to the Salvation Army (both the Lihue and Hanapepe Corps) on a great Thanksgiving Luncheon where nearly a thousand Kauai people were able to enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving meal!

Kudos to Salvation Army Lts. Nalu and Stacie Faasavalu (and their keiki, too), and Lts. Jose and Andrielli Gonzalez for coordinating the island-wide effort with the help of uku-pile-a hands.
Special mahalo to Longie’s Shave Ice for the gift cards at the Hanapepe luncheon, and Vanessa and Caesar Duarte of Da Wicked Brew for moving their food truck trailer to the Hanapepe Corps where they donated the coffee. Caesar said this is just a small way of giving back before they get busy next week with the Lights on Rice holiday parade (it’s coming up on Dec. 6 along with the Kauai Museum annual Christmas Craft Fair!), the Grove Farm Market Holiday Craft Fair with nearly 50 vendors, and a special Waimea High School Project Graduation event.
Ho! Ho! Ho! to Santa who got a headstart on the holidays (according to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, there’re five less shopping days before Christmas) when he snuck in on the Koloa School Keiki Ukulele Band (loved the string picking during “Jingle Bells”) during the Culinary Market at The Shops at Kukuiula. The Shops and Koloa School launched their annual Holiday Gift Bag fundraiser where shoppers at The Shops are able to select from the 700 bags, each hand-painted by Koloa School students in pre-K through Grade 5 for a minimum donation of $1 per bag.
OK, time to check out the Black Friday (the “official” Santa arrives at Kukui Grove at 10:30 a.m.) Small Business Saturday (Kauai Made hosts Holly Jolly on Dec. 7 at the Outrigger Kauai Beach Resort!), and even Cyber Monday (there’s going to be Smashburgers at the Pau Hana Market) specials. As Geraldine Baniaga of Mother’s Filipino Comfort Food says, “Lumpia make me happy!”
