LIHUE — Hilo High School soccer player Aneala Sibayan netted seven goals to lead the Viking wahine to a sweep of four games over the weekend, ending Sunday during a preseason girls soccer road trip from the Big Island.
Playing ahead of the Big Island Candies Soccer Tournament, Hilo captured games against Kauai High School, 2-1, Island School, 3-1, Waimea High School, 5-4, and Kapaa High School, 6-0, before winging back to Hawaii Island on Sunday.
The Hilo team competes in the Hawaii High School Athletic Association Division I.
Kauai High School found the goal in the first two minutes of play on Friday when Logan Hanna’s net kept the Red Raider ladies in the lead until the second half when Hilo’s Aelani Kuikahi-Kewolanui knotted the contest in the 42nd minute. Sibayan broke the tie in the last two minutes of play at Vidinha Stadium for the Viking win, 2-1.
On Saturday morning, Sibayan netted a pair of goals in the 35th and 37th minutes, and Leilillian Solomon-Hoopii found the net at the 45th minute to give Hilo a 3-0 edge over Island School. The Voyagers’ Autumn Alayvilla found the net in the 65th minute to prevent a shutout, 3-1.
On Saturday afternoon, Hilo’s Alaulani Roback found the net for the second time in the 56th minute to give the Viking ladies their 5-4 edge over Waimea High School. Sibayan netted a hat trick with goals in the 17th, 35th, and 37th minutes to build the foundation for Roback’s first goal that sank in the 41st minute.
Menehune net finders included Knapp breaking the ice in the 12th minute followed by Schaefer finding the net in the 25th minute for the 2-2 stalemate at the break. Waimea’s Jose and Tamura found the net twice in the second half of the effort that fell shore by a point.
Hilo’s Sharlette Chartrand netted a hat trick, or three goals scored, in the first half on Sunday during the Vikings’ final game on Kauai. Sibayan found the net as the first half ran out on Hilo’s 4-0 lead over Kapaa High School at the Bryan J. Baptiste Sports Park stadium where the Warriors football team clinched a 38-12 win over Kailua High School on Saturday during the state’s Division I quarterfinals.
Hilo’s Maiya Kepono-DeConte found the net in the 65th minute, and Naveah Lancaster’s goal in the 67th minute was the icing on the 6-0 shutout.
The Kauai Interscholastic Federation preseason soccer calendar continues this week when the Kapaa boys soccer team hosts Kaiser High School on Friday at the BJB Sports Park stadium, starting at 3:30 p.m.
Kaiser will face the Waimea boys on Saturday at the Hanapepe Stadium starting at 10 a.m., and the Cougars will meet the Voyager men at the Island School soccer fields starting at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
The KIF soccer season starts on Tuesday when the girls of Kauai High School travel to Hanapepe Stadium to face Waimea, and the Kapaa girls visit Island School.
