Kudos to the Hanapepe Pop Warner Colts and the Hanapepe Youth Baseball League on coordinating the two-day Hanapepe’s Biggest Little Carnival (Alden Pablo said it’s the “Fifth-and-a-Half!”), where Waimea High School students Kristan Raposas and Nia Pablo (that’s Alden’s daughter) spearheaded a $15,000 contribution to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. The presentation was a result of the Breast Cancer Awareness Pink Run that was Nia’s senior project.

Sponsored by the Wranglers Steakhouse, MCS Grill, Da Local Boy, Kauai Hospice and more than 200 participating runners, the Menehune Pink Run was hosted in honor of Aunty Nalani Shigematsu and the Shigematsu ‘ohana with the proceeds being turned over during the carnival.
Kauai Pop Warner Football League Commissioner Mel Rapozo said the league also turned over a contribution to the Kauai Shriner’s, as a result of the annual Shrine Bowl contest hosted on Saturday featuring a visiting football team from Hawaii Island.
Happy birthday, KPD Sgt. Bobby Thompson who spent his special day vending Spam musubi (really hit the spot!) and Flying Saucers for the Kapaa Eagles that lent their experience and flavor to the carnival’s food booth offerings similar to the days of the Kauai County Farm Bureau Farm Fair.
Okay, time to get ready for the weekend when the East Kauai Lions Club and its collective network of community partners, including the Department of Health, Hoola Lahui Hawaii and the Kauai Community College Nursing program host “Take Charge of Your Health” day from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Kauai Community College Fine Arts Auditorium on Saturday.
