LIHUE — Hawaii Pacific Health announced on Monday that Wilcox Medical Center has been recognized for clinical excellence in specialty services.
“We’re grateful to receive these accolades from Healthgrades,” said Jen Chahanovich, President and CEO of Wilcox Medical Center, and CEO of Kauai Medical Clinic. “Wilcox Medical Center is proud of the high-quality care we provide, and this recognition reflects our commitment to the community.”
Healthgrades, an online platform that connects patients to doctors and hospitals across the nation, has awarded Wilcox a five-star rating for hip fracture treatment for the fourth year in a row, from 2022 through 2025.
Additionally, the medical center received five stars for gallbladder removal surgery.
As part of its 2025 hospital assessment, Healthgrades evaluated risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates for more than 30 of the most common conditions and procedures at approximately 4,500 hospitals nationwide to determine the top performers in specialty care.
The Healthgrades 2025 analysis revealed that if all hospitals as a group performed similarly to five-star hospitals during the 2021 to 2023 study period that, on average, 224,958 lives could potentially have been saved and 141,692 complications could potentially have been avoided.
These statistics are based on Healthgrades’ analysis of MedPAR data for the years 2021 through 2023, and represent three-year estimates for Medicare patients only.
The analysis shows that from 2021 through 2023, patients having hip fracture treatment in hospitals with five stars had, on average, a 54.8 percent lower risk of experiencing a complication while in the hospital than if they were treated by hospitals with one star.
During that same time period, patients having gallbladder removal surgery at hospitals with five stars had, on average, a 60.2 percent lower risk of experiencing a complication than if they were treated by hospitals with one star.

Sorry Dennis. Healthgrades is a scam and not trustworthy. Do a little research.
This article sounds more like an advertisement rather than a news article. Boy, do I miss the journalism of Nathan Eagle, when the Garden Isle had a physical presence on Kauai.
