LIHUE — Kauai Island Utility Cooperative Energy Services Supervisor Scott Sato was in Tennessee on Sept. 24 to receive The Association of Energy Engineers – Western U.S. Region award for Institutional Energy Management on behalf of the cooperative.
Sato, who also serves as vice president of Kauai Island for the AEE-Hawaii Chapter, was in attendance at the Association of Energy Engineers World Energy Conference and Expo in Nashville, Tennessee, which honored excellence and innovation in energy, reflecting the highest standards of the profession.
He accepted the award on behalf of KIUC.
“KIUC was nominated for this prestigious Institutional Energy Management award by the AEE Hawaii Chapter for their dedication and hard, innovative work to achieve the amazing goals that KIUC has established; to provide an extremely high percentage of renewable energy to their customers from multiple energy projects install on Kauai Island,” said Certified Energy Manager Russ Koehller, president of the AEE Hawaii Chapter.
KIUC said for the fifth straight year, in 2023, KIUC led Hawaii in renewable generation, achieving 57.9 percent renewable. The high percentage of renewables has contributed to KIUC recording the lowest residential rates for all the islands from May 2022 through July 2024.
The Association of Energy Engineers is a nonprofit professional society with more than 17,000 members in more than 125 countries. The mission of AEE is to promote the scientific and educational interests of people engaged in the energy industry and to foster action for sustainable development.
