Feedback conflicting on how to rebuild Lahaina

Survivors of the Aug. 8, 2023, Lahaina wildfire expressed both clear and often conflicting opinions on how to rebuild the historic fishing village, with many participants in community engagement sessions on long-term recovery calling for better communications and other technological upgrades to respond to future emergencies, climate change and sea-level rise.

PUHI — The Island School girls cross-country team took the Central Pacific Bank Kauai Interscholastic Federation championship meet on Satruday, Oct. 19, at the Island School course by collecting 26 points when its top five runners broke the finish plane in the top eight positions.

Students immerse themselves in Newell’s shearwaters

WAILUA — A group of fourth grade students from Island School, Kumu Sabra Kauka, and representatives of the state Department of Land and Natural Resources and other community groups, including Save Our Shearwaters, watched on Wednesday as the four rehabilitated Newell’s shearwater birds took to the skies over a Wailua beach assisted by the hands of the spectators.
