Kapaa boys still alive in KIF bowling

LIHUE — With a week remaining on the Kauai Interscholastic Federation bowling calendar, Kapaa High School boys captured the Week 5 bowling to stay alive in the Central Pacific Bank KIF title chase.

Kapaa boys finished with a 2,407 pinfall to edge out the Kauai High School boys that finished with a 2,397 pinfall, just a pin advantage over Waimea High School that marked a team 2,396 for third place. William Kimura rolled a pair of 218 games to lead the victory.

Kauai High School coach Kyrin Sasaki said, “Kapaa Boys won Week 5, keeping their chances for the Central Pacific Bank KIF title alive. It was a back-and-forth from all three schools on the boys’ lanes. Waimea pulled off the first set win, followed by Kapaa in the second set and Kauai in the third. The total pinfall was within 11 pins for all three schools with Kapaa holding on to their lead to win the week.”

Sasaki said Kapaa will need to win on the final match night on Thursday to force a Baker Style 1 game roll off.

“Awesome job to all three schools, both boys and girls side,” Sasaki said.

On the girls lanes, Kauai High School, although missing a player during Week 5, rolled a 1,908 pinfall to take the match over Waimea girls, who marked a 1,647 pinfall.

The final week of KIF bowling, Senior Night for all three schools, takes place on Thursday with the warm-ups starting before the first set roll at 4:30 p.m. at Kauai Bowl.
