Ray Anthony Williams Sr.
Ray Anthony Williams Sr.
Ray Anthony Williams Sr., 65, of Hanamaulu, passed away on Oct. 20, 2024. He was born in Torrence, California, on March 12, 1959, and was a carpenter with McIntyre Construction.
He is survived by his three children Ray (Toni) Williams Jr., Annette Martinez, Jamie Williams, two granddaughters Isabella Williams, Maia Martinez, sisters Elizabeth Williams, Lucy Villanueva, Anna Villanueva, brother Raymond Villanueva, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

Emil Tyner Trinidad
Emil Tyner Trinidad, of Lihue, passed away on Sept. 2, 2024, in Lihue at the age of 38. He was born on Dec. 3, 1985, in Lihue.
He was preceded in death by grandfather Ricardo E. Navor Sr., grandmother Emy Aglibut, great-grandparents Agapito (Rachel) Navor, Elena Navor, Santos (Marcelina) Partible and cousin Benedict BJ Gaitos.
He is survived by fiancé Sierra Kelekoma, sons Johsiah Alcos, Dreyden Alcos, Ezekiel Navor, Kaleb Navor, Tymani Navor, an unborn son, daughter Tyrah Navor all of Lihue, parents Marlene (Jonathan) Reyes, Emilio (Andrea) Trinidad, brothers Michael Dustin Trinidad, Brandon Scott Trinidad of Lihue, sisters Chelsey (Mark) Gudoy of Lihue, Amber Bautista of Las Vegas, Kimberly Reyes, Patricia Reyes, Katrina Reyes all of Virginia, grandmother Adelina Navor, uncles Ridel (Jane) Navor, Ricardo Navor Jr., aunts Virgie (John Nakamura) Navor, Maile (Lester) Tugade, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A viewing will be held on Friday, Oct. 25, 2024, at the Garden Island Mortuary in Lawai, 23780 Kaumualii Hwy, Lawai, from 5 to 9 p.m.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 4453 Kapaia Road, Lihue. Viewing is from 8 to 10 a.m., followed by burial at Kalapaki Bay Memorial Park, 3380 Lala Road, Lihue. The family requests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Loretta Rapada Agosto
Loretta “Loring” Rapada Agosto passed away on Sept. 1, 2024, at the Queens Wahiawa on Oahu, at the age of 95. She was born on Oct. 3, 1928, in Sinait, Ilocos Sur, Philippines.
Retired Private Caregiver and Certified Nurse’s Aide at the Kauai Care Center in Waimea formerly known as Kauai Care Home. A beloved and caring mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and guardian to those that knew her. She loved to sing and dance with her grandchildren. She enjoyed yearly visits to Las Vegas, watching the Hallmark Channel and coloring. She loved to read, whether it was the daily newspaper, the Bible or books on political figures, past and present.
Loretta was preceded in death by husband, Fortunato Agosto Sr., father Juan “Apo” Rapada, mother Dominga Raposas Rapada, sons Robert “Aggos” Agosto, Fortunato “Foto” Agosto Jr., grandsons Tyson Pagador and Ryan Yamamoto.
Loretta is survived by her children Kathryn (Dennis) Yamamoto, Ben (Anna) Agosto, Elizabeth “Liz” (George) Kawamura, Jane (Rodney) Williams, Lorna (Tommy) Takayama, Lesley (Michael) Castillo, Brandon Agosto, grandchildren Sherri (Larry) Ephan, Michelle (Kyle) Furutani, Jacy (Pastor Kipi) Higa, Shilum Agosto, Shayla Agosto, Shaun (Jacie) Kawamura, Tia Kawamura, Rory (Jeni Kaohelaulii) Agosto, Megan (Clifton) Ephan, Christian Agosto, Daniel (Rachel) Takayama, Micah Takayama, Hailey Castillo, Alana Williams, Noah Takayama, Mikayla Castillo, 23 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2024, at the Scared Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic Church, 9496 Kaumaulii Highway, Waimea. Visitation with family at 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. followed by Celebration of Life and Mass at 11 a.m. Burial will be private. Casual attire and flowers welcome.
Magdalena Layaoen Parubrub
Magdalena Layaoen Parubrub, of Koloa, passed away on Sept. 20, 2024, at the age of 101. She was born on Oct. 14, 1922, in Baay, Butac, Ilocos Norte, Philippines. She was a housewife.
She was preceded in death by husband Restitato Gado Parubrub, daughter Rebecca P. Dela Cruz, son Noel Layaoen, parents Genaro and Anastacia Layaoen, brothers Jose L. Layaoen and Efren B. Layaoen.
She is survived by sons Henry (Ederline) Parubrub of Kekaha, Dusty (Pamela) Parubrub of Koloa, Wilber (Denise) Parubrub of Kekaha, daughter Lily Millare of Eleele, 20 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, brother Mac (Delly) Layaoen of Koloa, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024, at the Garden Island Mortuary in Lawai. Visitation from 2 to 3 p.m., followed by a celebration of life at 3 p.m. The family requests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Wayne Ajimura
Wayne Ajimura, of Hanapepe, passed away on Sept. 8, 2024, at the age of 76. He was born on Sept. 26, 1947, in Lihue. He retired from the U.S. Army and was a self-proprietor.
He was preceded in death by father Masaichi Ajimura, daughter Sharon Ajimura, sisters Vickie Ajimura, Shelly Kabat and brother Alvin Ajimura.
He is survived by daughters Janel Ajimura of Hawaii Island, Mackenzie Ajimura of Lanai, grandchildren Justin Paaaina, Jaylin Paaaina, mother Yuriko Ajimura of Hanapepe, brother Clyde (Dominga) Ajimura of Hanapepe, sisters Lynn Viquelia of Mission Viejo, California, Mary Ajimura of Gardena, California, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024, at the Kauai Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe starting at 11 a.m.

Tamar Kamala Mersberg passed away in Anahola, Kauai, on Sept. 27, 2024, surrounded by her ‘Ohana at the age of 81. Born on Sept. 12, 1943, in Honolulu, Oahu. She retired from the County of Kauai.
Preceded in death by husband Lawrence K. “Joe” Mersberg, father Arthur K. DeFries, mother Tamara K. Kaneali‘i DeFries, sons Nathan A. “Kaiza” Mersberg and Lawrence K. “Duna” Mersberg, daughter Jennifer Pua Manu, brothers Arthur K. DeFries and Gaylord K. DeFries, and sister Annalene K. Spencer.
Survived by son Arthur K. (Naomi) Mersberg, daughter Priscilla U. (John) Mersberg-Kloes, brothers David K. (Sandra) DeFries and Roland N. (Kari) DeFries, sister Edie DeFries, grandchildren Kunane (Kristalyn) Mersberg, Ioane Mersberg-Kloes, Makanani Mersberg, Kapuaonaona Mersberg, Kaleionaona Mersberg, Cody Mersberg, Joshua Mersberg, great-grandchildren Kaikunane Mersberg, Nyla Mersberg, daughters-in-law Karen Doiron, Nani Maka Valpoon, son-in-law Sosefo Manu, sisters-in-law Val (Fred) Wong, Rose Angeles, Stephanie Saffery, as well as numerous aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Services will be held on Nov. 1, 2024, at Kapaa First Hawaiian Church. Visitation begins at 9:30 a.m., service at 10:30 a.m., and burial will follow at Kapaa, Kealia Cemetery.

Layne Katsumi Shigeta
Layne Katsumi Shigeta, of Lihue, passed away on Oct. 8, 2024, at the age of 68. He was born on June 1, 1956, in Lihue. He was a Kauai Branch Administrator for the State Department of Human Services Vocational Rehabilitation Division.
He was loved by many throughout the state, especially by colleagues and clients as an administrator, senior counselor, and social worker. He was a graduate of Kauai High School Class of 74. To his family, he was the central force of love and care.
Preceded in death by father Yukio Shigeta.
He is survived by wife Linda Shigeta, sons Noah (Rebekah) Osborn, Nicholas “Nick” Kealii Shigeta, mother Alice Shigeta, brothers Daryl (Martha) Shigeta, Tyler (Rosie) Shigeta, Donn Shigeta, grandchildren Christine Pelez-Osborn, Lutecia Osborn, aunts Kikuno Shigeta-Wakumoto, Esther Makanae Shigeta, Jean Kanemoto Hamura and uncle Donald Kanemoto.
Out of deepest respect for Layne’s spoken and written wishes no funeral will be held.

Ernest Thane Caires, of Lawai, passed away on July 28, 2024, at the age of 74. He was born on April 2, 1950, in Lihue. He was a commercial fisherman.
He was preceded in death by his father Ernest Theodore Caires, mother Anne Martha Caires and brother Clyde Caires.
He is survived by his life partner Georgeatte D. Albina, sons Thane (Mariko) Kaleo Caires of Lawai, Kaikane Sherman of Lawai, Jason Albina of Kauai, daughter Kristi-Lynn Rita (Michael) of Kalaheo, grandchildren Braden, Kylen, Teague, Ho’ola’i, Alyssa Caires, Cyrus Carvalho-Sherman, Ka’iwa, Ihilani Schimmelfennig, Micah, Mikeo, Mikey, Shannon, Makani Rita, Tinoa, Koden, Jayla, Malu Albina, brother Roger (Susan) Caires of Kalaheo, Louis (Nancy) Caires of Honolulu, sister Valerie (Raymond) Ornellas of Wailua, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024, at the Eleele Port Allen Boat Club. Visitation with family is from 12:30 to 2 p.m., followed by lunch. The family suggests casual attire and kindly omits flowers.

Eugene Edward Fernandez, aka Geno, of Kekaha, Kauai, passed away on Dec. 14, 2023, in Waimea, Kauai at the age of 51. He was born on June 1, 1972, in Waimea, Kauai. He was a Special Education Teacher, Security Guard and Coach.
He was preceded in death by his father Edward Fernandez.
He is survived by his mother Georgia Fernandez of Kekaha, Kauai, sisters Gina (Rod) Fernandez Gallegos of Niceville, Florida, Jacquelyn Fernandez of Kekaha, Kauai, Carolyn (Erik) Fernandez Santos of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
His Celebration of Life will be held on Nov. 2, 2024, at the Kauai Bible Church. Service at 9 a.m., officiated by Pastor Aaron Chidester.
