Puni and Troy Waialeale, of Gay &Robinson, made their own bento-style breakfasts for the Sounding the Alarm volunteers (kudos, American Red Cross, Kauai Fire Department, including Kaeo Kinoshita of Fire Prevention Bureau, and Kaumakani camp residents!) on Saturday morning after the store-bought meals were a little short during the initial effort of installing, checking and providing fire safety instruction and inspections for the homes in the Kaumakani camp. John Blaylock of the American Red Cross was ready for post-alarm activity with his keel surfboards in the back of his truck … Nothing beats homemade!

Kudos to Kapaa High School basketball coach Kamahao Kauhane (yes, the Kauai Interscholastic Federation roundball season is knocking on the door) for taking care of all the fans and players that braved the record-high temperatures (was Kauai the only island where it was that hot?) on Saturday afternoon’s football game at the Bryan J. Baptiste Sports Complex … when you’re thirsty, you don’t need to contend with long lines for a cold drink.
Congratulations to Dennis Eguchi, Dylan DeCosta and Ursuline Munar, of Aloha Pacific Federal Credit Union Kekaha Credit Union, for celebrating International Credit Union Week by volunteering at the Westside Christian Center Assembly of God food booth at the Harvest Festival in Kekaha. Instead of the usual premium giveaways, Munar said ICU Week is about helping people, and Eguchi said Pastor Darryl Kua needs help because the Westside Christian Center wants to send some of its youths to a mainland camp.
