Another busy Saturday is in store for Kauai for all parts of the island starting with the 11th annual Harvest Festival (there is another one presented by the Koloa Missionary Church on Oct. 31!) in Kekaha … at last year’s event, Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami went to help set up so he could participate in the other day’s events. Saturday’s event features free admission starting at 10 a.m. with entertainment, rides and a chance to help community nonprofits by patronizing the food section. On top of everything, there will be free pumpkins (locally grown!) for keiki … watch the paper for details on more free pumpkins at places like Grove Farm Market, Pau Hana Market and more.

The Kauai Japanese Cultural Society got help from Randall Francisco to set up the traditional and contemporary Japanese culture, arts and contests, which include cosplay, kendama and musubi contests at the 39th annual Kauai Japanese Matsuri Festival (are we having keiki bon dance?) at Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There’s no admission fee to this event, and bound to have shopping and other inter-active activities.
When the doors close to the Matsuri, the Rice Street Block Party starts up from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. in downtown Lihue with more free admission to the array of food trucks, vendors and entertainment, which includes Na Leo Pilimehana and Kapena … no, Bronson Aiwohi will be there, too.
Ahead of the Block Party, a pickleball tournament will fill up Kalena Park from early in the morning. And don’t forget football that starts at noon for the junior varsity.
