LIHUE — Christian and Nanea Marston, and Tahiti Nui, were recipients of a Kauai County Council congratulatory certificate during the council’s meeting at the historic County Building on Wednesday.
The certificate recognized Tahiti Nui for its “61 years of unwavering dedication, exceptional service, and enduring tradition.”
Originally conceived as a small diner by Bruce T. Marston and Louise, a descendant of Tahitian royalty, in 1963, Tahiti Nui has evolved into a cherished institution that is loved by locals and visitors alike, the council said.
The certificate further states that through the years, the restaurant has undergone transformations, but its essence rooted in the values of friendliness, service, and the pursuit of excellence has remained steadfast.
Now carried forward by the children of Bruce and Louise, and guided by the vision and spirit of its founders, Nanea and Christian and Tahiti Nui continues to epitomize the essence of Polynesian hospitality.
“With each passing year, the restaurant remains true to its roots, preserving the legacy of its humble beginnings while embracing the evolving tastes and desires of its patrons,” the certificate states.
“The Kauai County Council recognizes Tahiti Nui for more than six decades of excellence and an unwavering commitment to preserving the legacy of its founders as a celebrated and honored landmark, cherished on the island of Kauai, and beyond.”
We first discovered Tahiti Nui in 1966! Louise was a phenomenon, a force of nature, unstoppable! I recall her wedding: she was flown in by helicopter. What an entrance!
We always enjoyed speaking French with her.
