Wendall Satoru Yamamoto
Sunrise — March 1966
Sunset — August 2024
Wendall was best known to everyone, especially on Kauai as “Hawaiian.” He was a true kanaka maoli.
The second child of Wayne and Carolyn Yamamoto, born and raised in Pearl City, Hawaii (Oahu). He grew up happily with his siblings Wayne, Wade, Ward, Wes, Warren, and Carrie Ann. He was survived by his mother Carolyn Yamamoto, siblings Carrie Ann, Ward, Wes and Warren, as well as numerous aunties, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
As a young boy, “Hawaiian” loved going with his ohana and friends to fish and surf the beaches around the Island. He would travel back and forth to Kauai to visit his grandparents James and Agnes Alapa‘i, helping them work the ohana aina and lo‘i up Hanalei uka. He eventually returned to Kauai to help his uncle rebuild after Hurricane Iniki and remained on Kauai ever since. “Hawaiian” LOVED all Kauai had to offer.
Like his father, he was an excellent fisherman. You would frequently see him at North Shore beaches with his nets and ukulele singing a happy tune. “Hawaiian” was known for sharing his gifts from the land and sea. He was also a skilled carpenter and master to many trades. He was a blessing to so many Kauai families with his trade skills — helping to rebuild or renovate their homes. A solid “Hawaiian” and we will all miss him dearly.
Please join us for his Celebration of Life on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2024, at Kalihiwai Bay. Commencement at noon., Sunset paddle out at 5 p.m.
