LIHUE — Kapaa High School bowler William Kimura was the sole bowler to roll three games of more than 200 on Thursday, when the Kauai Interscholastic Federation rolled out its third match at Kauai Bowl.
Despite the strong individual showing, Kauai High School boys topped the day’s competition on a 2,613 pinfall led by the high game from Rylin Iloreta rolling a 226 in his third game, beating Kimura by a pin.
Kapaa boys finished in second place with 2,363 pinfall, followed by the Waimea with a 2086 pinfall.
On the girls lanes, Kauai High School completed a sweep after the Red Raider ladies marked a 1,897 pinfall to 1,823 win over Waimea High School. Kapaa, with just two girl bowlers, could not field a team score.
Waimea High School outpointed Kauai in the third game 636-580 led by Jayna Sams getting the best roll for Waimea at 133. But the effort fell short as the Kauai girls outpointed the Menehune in the first two games. Kauai’s Cazzelle Luis rolled the team’s best score of 165 in the second game.
“Good job to all the bowlers,” said Kauai High School Coach Kyrin Sasaki. “Once again, the bowlers made it an exciting night. The titles are still anyone’s week to win, so keep on working hard — we’re only halfway through. For the spectators, if you haven’t come out and watched, yet, there’re three more matches to go.”
According to Sasaki, the Kauai boys are up by one week and the Kauai girls are up by two weeks.
“If Kauai High School girls win next week, they will be KIF Champions,” Sasaki said. “The boys are still up for grabs by anyone.”
