LIHUE — Leaders of the North Shore Give and Ohana FitFest were honored, congratulated and commended by the Kauai County Council during a certificate presentation at a County Council meeting on Wednesday.
The certificate congratulated the group for “enhancing the community and supporting nonprofits through its two platforms — North Shore Give, and Ohana FitFest.”
Authored by Dr. Addison Bulosan, the certificate described North Shore Give Week as a community-wide giving event that takes place from Sept. 20 through Sept. 28 for the purpose of raising funds and encouraging volunteerism for local nonprofits working to improve access to education, food security, housing challenge and more.
The week ends on Sept. 28, the same date as the Ohana FitFest, which is encouraging people to register to avoid the long lines on Saturday. Online registration is being accepted at www.northshoregive.org/events/ohana-fitfest/.
Another way of avoiding the long registration lines on race day is to take advantage of the Packet Pickup Day on Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. at Makai Grill at Makai Golf Club.
The certificate described Ohana FitFest as a 5k-ish fun run/walk with family-friendly obstacles along the route.
This year marks the 11th anniversary of the event, which brings together families, friends and neighbors in the spirit of health, fitness and community unity.
The 11th anniversary is a testament to the enduring impact that it has had on the community, the certificate states. Last year alone, the Ohana FitFest raised more than $15,000 in event proceeds, which were donated to North Shore elementary schools in support of health and fitness programs.
