WAIMEA — Host Waimea High School cross-country runner finished in third place for the boys and fourth place for the girls at the Kauai Interscholastic Federation cross-country races held at the Menehune campus.
Menehune runner Cedric Crampton-Nabaa finished just steps back of Khyler Greenleaf of Island School, who set the pace for the day with his first finish that stopped the clocks at 19 minutes, 7.33 seconds. Crampton-Nabaa followed just 0.39 second back, stopping the clock at 19.07.72.
Menehune Zach White Tzeng followed in eighth place, overall (20:42.46), and the three remaining scoring runners crossed in the top 25 for 58 points.
Kauai High School boys repeated as first place winners when its top five scoring runners crossed the finish line in the day’s top 10. Crossing fourth, overall, Kobe Claussen set up the Red Raiders pacing after stopping the clocks at 19:57.48. The Kauai boys finished with 35 points for its first place finish.
Island School, whose Greenleaf was the first finisher of the race in Waimea, finished second with 35 points. Kapa‘a High School boys finished in fourth place with 80 points, when its first runner, Hali Tom, stopped the clocks in 11th place with a 21:27.64.
The Kapaa High School girls, similar to their race last week, placed scoring leaders in fourth through ninth places to capture top honors for the girls race with 31 points.
Island School girls placed two girls in the top 3 — Ashlyn Worley stopping the clocks at 23 minutes, 42.75 seconds in second place, overall, and Eva Rose Rapp in third place, overall — to finish in second place at 39 points.
Kauai High School, whose Aleah Villatora set the pace for the wahine race with her first place finish at 22:36.61, finished third with 54 points.
Waimea High School girls, whose Ria Agor was the first Menehune wahine to cross in 18th place at 29:51.36, finished in fourth place with 107 points.
The next KIF cross-country races take place on Saturday, hosted by Kapaa High School at its campus. The first race is scheduled to start at 7:30 a.m.
